Sarah-Lucero-Stila.jpgSo, we’ve been really into Stila lately (if you couldn’t tell). They’ve had so many great releases this season, we really can’t help but gush. After testing tons of new products, we reached out to Sarah Lucero, Stila’s pro makeup artist and a regular at Fashion Week, for her tips on what every woman needs this fall in her makeup bag. For starters, she prompted us on some autumn advice: “Fall is all about texture and bold color when it comes to makeup,” she says. More specifically? Here’s what she suggests you shouldn’t be without:

Foundation. “Every woman needs a foundation that will create polished and flawless looking skin daily. I like Stila One Step Makeup Foundation for every day wear, because it has a primer, foundation, concealer and powder built into every pump.”

Double duty cheek and lip color. “Stila Convertible Color is the best cream cheek and lip color. Peony is the best shade for every skin tone and it warms up the cheeks and leaves a smooth and soft glow on skin, which is perfect for fall and winter.”

Eyeshadow palettes. “They are an easy way to change up your look as easily as changing your outfit! Stila’s Backstage Eyeshadow Palette includes six shades created by me that were inspired by fall runway trends. I love the satin and silky texture. Plus, you can use them wet for an intense effect or sweep it on dry for a wash of color.”

Mascara. “Mascara is always a makeup bag must-have. Look for a creamy formula so you can build volume and length by applying a few coats. If you are doing a strong cat eye, simply direct a second coat of mascara towards the corner lashes to enhance eyes. If I’m doing doll-like eyes on a client, I like to add a little extra mascara to the center of the top and lower lashes to create a wide-eye effect. That’s also a great trick for tired eyes.”

On-the-go fresheners. “I love the cranberry Triad Toner Pads by Arcona. They freshen up my skin after work or on the airplane when I’m jumping around between photo shoots. Also, Mario Badescu makes a great rose water spray and I like to carry this with me to set my makeup and I use it on clients to tone their skin. It has a soothing smell and feels amazing throughout the day.”

CND-Stickey-Base-Coat.jpgWant to know a secret? The best base coat around is CND Stickey. No matter how many we try, no matter where we stray, we keep coming back to the amazingness of this one particular base coat.

There are two major factors we look for in a base coat:

1) It anchors the polish to the nail with as little chipping as possible
2) It prevents staining of the nail, no matter how dark the polish may be

Stickey DELIVERS. Polish lasts for days without peeling or chipping — we’ve been known to wear the same polish for close to two weeks with only the smallest amount of tip wear! And when we finally do remove the polish, our nails are just as pristine and clear as ever underneath.

In short? Stickey is the way to go.

CND Stickey retails for $8.50 at ulta.com.
Stila-Acai-Crush.jpgWe know we’ve been covering a lot of lip stains lately (like here and here), but they are just so…efficient. Their color lasts so much longer than any lip gloss or lipstick, and you can customize the depth of your hue by using single, or multiple applications.

Stila’s Açaí Crush Lip & Cheeks Stain is the newest addition to their fruit-inspired stains (even though it doesn’t smell or taste fruity.) The color is fantastically rich and vibrant, and we didn’t experience sandpaper lips like wit some other more drying lip stains.

This lip color is not only inspired from a super fruit, but Stila claims it’s “super smart”, too. The formula is specifically formulated to create a unique color depending on your skin’s pH levels. Though the color was severely clown-like on our cheeks (maybe we used too much of the product), our lips were a perfect (and we mean purrrrrfect) shade of ruby red! It was the most perfect (yes, we said it again) shade of candy apple red we’ve ever found for our skin color and lips.

The color comes quickly when you click, click, click, so beware. Plus, a tiny bit goes a very long way, since the formula is deeply pigmented. The brush works great for precise application, which is ideal for a gel formula like this one.

Our beautiful ruby lip shade lasted all night, without fading even just a bit. The only bad part about having such a long-lasting formula, is that sometimes…it lasts too long! We had to scrub our lips in the morning to get off excess color, but we thought it was well worth the pretty pout from the night before! We foresee ourselves wearing the Stila Açaí Crush Lip & Cheeks Stain for every holiday party we have in the coming weeks, and you will, too, once you add it to your makeup bag. $24, stilacosmetics.com

Sugar-and-Spice.jpg
When the weather cools off, and the leaves start turning, nothing is more comforting than warm, sweet and spicy scents - whether in the kitchen or on your body! Blanket yourself in fall aromas with these five indulgent goodies.

1. Philosophy Trick or Treat Lip Shine Duo, $18. Pumpkin spice and caramel apple? Yes, please! These high-shine glosses smell and taste fantastic, adding a nice sheer hint of color. Though they are a little stickier than we would have liked, we didn’t mind, because Philosophy goodies are formulated without parabens, sulfates, GMOs and triclosan.

2. Philosophy The Gingerbread Man Scrub, $25. We adore scrubs for this brand. They have the perfect amount of grain (not too soft, not too rough), plus they warm up marvelously as you work them onto your skin in the tub or bath. The spicy, gingery scent of this cookie-inspired scrub is light, and refreshing, and stays on your skin for a good amount of time.

3. Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, $44. PTR is known for their anti-aging products, and their pumpkin peel is no exception. We loved how soft our skin was after just one use, and the fantastic scent is addicting. Plus, we were originally afraid it might be too much for our sensitive facial skin to handle, but there was no reaction, or left over breakouts!

4. Fresh Sugar Plum Lip Treatment SPF 15, $22.50. Give us a sweet, SPF-laden, sheerly tinted and silky lip product any day. Fresh’s new plum hue is fantastic for fall because it’s sweet, and pairs perfectly with wind blushed cheeks. The twist at the bottom of the stick is great for securing the top nicely, so we don’t have to worry about the top coming off in our bags. Though a little pricey, it will most likely last for months.

5. Cranberry Joy Shimmer Lotion by the Body Shop, $16. For us, the mouthwatering cranberry scent from the Body Shop is our favorite holiday scent. Though its more reminiscent of Christmas than of fall (to us, at least), the light shimmer it leaves on your skin looks beautiful in soft autumnal light.
