Stila-One-Step-correct.jpgClaims: This innovative, triple-swirled helix serum instantly color corrects, brightens and covers skin imperfections for a flawless face with no fuss.

This primer, color corrector, brightener and anti-aging skincare serum instantly makes imperfections disappear, reduces lines, wrinkles, pores and pigmentation, and hydrates, controls oil and improves skin texture.

The revolutionary new product contains 3 color-correcting brighteners:
  • Green tone instantly neutralizes redness and conceals blemishes
  • Lavender tone counteracts sallow undertones for a vibrant, energized look
  • Peach tone brightens, illuminates and helps diminish the appearance of sun spots
Our take: We aren’t going to lie and say the eye-catching, tri-color design wasn’t the first thing to attract us to the Stila One Step Correct, because it absolutely was. We’re also not going to say that on our first try, we weren’t a little disappointed that all of our skin imperfections weren’t magically erased as it claims. We still needed to use concealer on some old acne scars that have stubbornly decided to stay put on our cheeks. But, with one and a half pumps of this serum slathered on our faces (that absorbs super quickly, and feels nice, cool and smooth going on), our skin took on a nice, glowing property. Not like this-stuff-makes-our-face-greasy glow, but a nice, underlying glow.

Once we put on our makeup, we definitely noticed a difference in the look of our complexion. It was more even, but not in a fake, too-much-makeup kind of way. Throughout the day, our oily skin was less slick, and our makeup stayed put all day. This doesn’t happen normally, so we were very much impressed.

Whether our pores and pigmentation have been reduced or not, we honestly can’t really tell, but as a face primer over moisturizer, this stuff works great. We can’t imagine putting on our mineral foundation without it anymore. It’s pretty pricey, but after forgetting it at home over the holiday weekend and seeing the difference in our final made-up look, we’d gladly spend extra for it! $36, sephora.com
Ole-Henriksen-African-Red-Tea-Self-Heating-Body-Souffle.jpgLet’s face it, skin is susceptible to dryness and dehydration when the temperatures turn chilly. If you’re like us, you’ve tried just about everything to soften and nourish your skin … but nothing seems to work. Until now. We put Ole Henriksen African Red Tea Self-Heating Body Souffle to the test, and — much to our surprise! — it delivered.

This lotion joins the ranks of the Ole Henriksen African Red Tea line, a collection of over 10 products that work to strengthen, calm and soothe the skin. African Red Tea also has one other very impressive benefit, it slows the aging process! And while we don’t normally think about the skin on our bodies aging (aside from troublesome, cellulite-induced areas), it is nice to know there’s a product out there that works to combat the pesky signs of getting older.

We love that this lotion is packed to the brim with amazing properties. Citrus essential oils purify and brighten skin. Linseed, borage seed and black currant oils hydrate and protect skin cells with omega-3 fatty, oleic and palmitic acids. Pumpkin extract exfoliates, reduces irritation and balances skin tone. And our favorite ingredient of all, shea butter, moisturizes and nourishes the skin.

A gel-like consistency really sets this lotion apart from others on the market. It’s cooling to the touch — and, yes, we know it says “self-heating” in the name! We’ve actually found that unless you’re rubbing it into your skin fairly vigorously, it’s actually quite cool — and, if it does feel warm, that may just be friction. Our favorite feature, though, is definitely the fact that it’s not greasy AT ALL — it sinks right into skin without leaving behind any residue. Perfect, since we like to apply it right before bed.

Our final verdict? This lotion delivers.

Matthew-Williamson-Fall-2010-RTW-Ballerina-Bun.JPGOur dreams of wearing tutus and pointe shoes may be behind us. But one trend we’re totally jonesing over? The ballerina bun. This chic, elegant style is actually unbelievably easy to create — and, thankfully, it was seen on so many runways (like Matthew Williamson, above), that it’s most definitely become a trend. Starlets like Natalie Portman, Kristen Bell and Nicole Richie have sported their takes on the look in the past few months — and now we’re here to show you how it’s done!

STEP 1:
Spritz hair with water from a spray bottle. Be sure not to make it soaking wet — just dampen enough to really get it to lay flat.

STEP 2:
Brush all hair back tightly and secure with an elastic where you’d like the bun to rest. We prefer it slightly below the crown.

STEP 3:
Secure hair with an elastic, like the Goody Ouchless No Metal Gentle Ponytail Holders ($2.99 for 12 at walgreens.com).

STEP 4:
Twist your ponytail into a tight rope and then wind around the base.

STEP 5:
Secure the wound section with either another ponytail holder or with bobby pins.

STEP 6:
Finish with a generous amount of hairspray to secure the bun in place. Cult favorite L’Oreal Elnett Extra StrongHold UV Hair Spray ($12.49 at target.com) provides the ultimate touchable hold.

AMA-Beauty-1.jpg
This past Sunday, November 21, the American Music Awards may have had plenty of winners in all categories, but for us, we were only interested in who won best in beauty. There were certainly some standouts. Teen queen Miley Cyrus shone the brightest in our eyes, with her perfect, smooth soft waved hair, and her youthful, feminine makeup. Country starlet Taylor Swift’s bold, luscious eyes and lashes peaked out flawlessly from her pin-straight locks and bangs.

Songstress Keri Hilson’s bling may have been a little too gaudy for our tastes, but her splendid smokey eyes and her sleek ‘do were an A+ in our book. And last, but certainly not least, the City’s star Whitney Port’s messy, yet chic swept-up chignon and pink pout are truly holiday-party worthy!
Diptyque-Violette-Candle.jpgLook up the definition of “luxury” in the dictionary, and we’re fairly certain you’ll find a picture of a Diptyque candle. Seriously, there isn’t a candle chicer or more luxurious on the planet. And when it comes to the Diptyque Violette Candle? Our senses almost can’t take the amazingness.

A combination of violet and powdery iris notes create a fragrance so enticing, so intriguing, so utterly divine, we find ourselves pining for the scent at every hour of the day. It’s heady without being cloying, and fills the room with such a lush floral fragrance, you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into your very own garden of paradise.

The Diptyque Violette Candle retails for $60 at bluemercury.com.
