Trend we love: the ballerina bun

Our dreams of wearing tutus and pointe shoes may be behind us. But one trend we’re totally jonesing over? The ballerina bun. This chic, elegant style is actually unbelievably easy to create — and, thankfully, it was seen on so many runways (like Matthew Williamson, above), that it’s most definitely become a trend. Starlets like Natalie Portman, Kristen Bell and Nicole Richie have sported their takes on the look in the past few months — and now we’re here to show you how it’s done!

STEP 1:
Spritz hair with water from a spray bottle. Be sure not to make it soaking wet — just dampen enough to really get it to lay flat.

STEP 2:
Brush all hair back tightly and secure with an elastic where you’d like the bun to rest. We prefer it slightly below the crown.

STEP 3:
Secure hair with an elastic, like the Goody Ouchless No Metal Gentle Ponytail Holders ($2.99 for 12 at walgreens.com).

STEP 4:
Twist your ponytail into a tight rope and then wind around the base.

STEP 5:
Secure the wound section with either another ponytail holder or with bobby pins.

STEP 6:
