February 2012 Archives

The most glamorous night of the year—the Oscars—has come and gone once more. And now that a few days have gone by, we’ve culled our favorite trends of the evening. Here are the ones we liked the most.

Angelina-Jolie-Milla-Jovovich-Oscars.jpgRed lips
Angelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich both brought the drama with one of the red carpet’s bolder trends of the evening, the red lip.

Jennifer-Lopez-Shailene-Woodley-Tina-Fey-Oscars.jpgHigh, voluminous updos
Tina Fey, Jennifer Lopez and Shailene Woodley all proved that bigger is better with buns and chignons that were high, poufy and totally drama-filled.

Sandra-Bullock-Leslie-Mann-Gwyneth-Paltrow-Oscars.jpgGlamorous ponytails
Leslie Mann, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock all went for ponytails—but, rather than looking simple or little girlish, they were uber-glamorous and chic.

Octavia-Spencer-Kristen-Wiig-Kate-Mara-Melissa-McCarthy.jpgDark manicures
While many celebs opted for really pale nails, a few starlets took some chances with their nail color on the red carpet. We love the dark manis worn by Kristen Wiig, Octavia Spencer, Kate Mara and Melissa McCarthy.

Who knew girly bangs were making such a comeback? We love the blunt fringes seen on Rose Byrne, Rooney Mara, Anna Faris and Ellie Kemper.

Natalie-Portman-Emma-Stone-Michelle-Williams-Oscars.jpgPink lips
Some celebs opted for a slightly subtler lip color than red, which was just so sweet and feminine on the red carpet. We love the pink lip colors chosen by Natalie Portman, Emma Stone and Michelle Williams.

I’m a loyal fan of my beauty products so once I found Clinique Cream Shaper for Eyes I never looked back. The liner goes on perfectly every time, with just the right amount of color and pop for any look. The creamy consistency can be dramatic when layered on thick or act as the perfect basic liner when applied lightly. It comes in six different shades, but Black Diamond and Starry Plum are by far my faves.

Nails-Inc-Electric-Lane-Top-Coat.jpgWant to transform your nails from drab to fab in an instant? Pick up a bottle of Nails Inc. Special Effects Electric Lane Holographic Glitter Top Coat.

The longest name in the world aside (seriously, we’ve never seen a longer name for a nail polish before), this top coat is super cool. It makes nails glitter and glisten with just one coat! We love it over everything, from browns and blacks to reds and purples. It just makes every color that much better.

We will say that the formula is pretty thick, so it will obscure the original color fairly well with only one coat. Our favorite way to wear it is as an accent nail against a mainly creamy, non-glittery manicure so that it really stands out.

Nails Inc. Special Effects Electric Lane Holographic Glitter Top Coat retails for $10 at

Rihanna has always been about making bold statements, both with her clothes and her makeup. Yet when she walked the red carpet at the 2012 BRIT Awards she decided to let her makeup play backseat to her plunging neckline. Her face screamed natural beauty with her eyes encased in a pale shadow and a liner so thin it was barely noticeable. And her lips, which are often colored in some shocking, bright hue, were glossed in a natural, pale pink befitting of her overall simple makeup. The end result was ri-ri-diculously beautiful!
