September 2012 Archives

Last week I introduced the L’Oreal Paris RevitaLift Triple Power Collection anti-aging system and promised to keep you posted on my progress as I test out the products for a month. One week in and I can honestly say I’m impressed!loreal-deep-acting-moisturizer.jpg

While it’s too soon to visualize any long-term benefits, the instant benefits are remarkable — in large part due to the Triple Power Deep Acting Moisturizer. I will preface this by saying that I have extremely dry skin, so a moisturizer is an integral part of my morning and evening skincare routine. As I mentioned in my previous post, my smile lines have become more pronounced in recent years and I’ve noticed a slight loss of firmness.

My first impression of the product was, of course, the packaging. The jar has an impressive heft to it and a luxury feel that I rarely associate with a drugstore product. The cream is nice and lightweight, not too thick, with a light pleasant smell that isn’t at all cloying or overpowering. Applying the cream feels deliciously soothing and melts into skin, providing a perfect base for makeup without any greasy feel or look. Most importantly, it works instantly to moisturize my dry skin, leaving no flakes or rough patches whatsoever — a problem I often experience with other moisturizers. Even better, I do see a difference in fine lines with a noticeable plumping of the skin making it look younger and smoother on contact.

After using the product for a week, I find it to be an amazing daily moisturizer. As the weeks go on, I look forward to realizing the added benefit of younger, firmer skin as the patented ProXylane ingredient works to stimulate collagen production. I’ll check back in next week with my progress.

L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift introduces Triple Power - three anti-aging skincare products designed to help fight the 3 dimensions of aging. When just fighting wrinkles isn’t enough, you need to go beyond a one-dimensional approach to restore skin’s youthful look. Challenge this approach with a powerful and luxurious cream (Triple Power Deep-Acting Moisturizer) that visibly addresses the three dimensions of aging skin: wrinkles, loss of facial volume and loss of firmness. The RevitaLift Triple Power collection also includes a Concentrated Serum and an Eye Treatment.

Cult-Beauty-Products-Image.jpgThere are always going to be those beauty products people swear by—the pros, the industry insiders, even your BFF. But which ones are really worth the hype—and which ones can be tossed by the wayside? The five below are the real deal.

Moroccanoil Treatment
A hair treatment that works on all hair types, making them look shiny and feel silky beyond compare. We would have said it’s impossible, except that this hair oil really and truly works. Oh, and it smells amazing, too.

NARS Orgasm Blush
Maybe it’s the shade of peach. Maybe it’s the sleek black compact. Or maybe it’s just the cheeky name. Whatever it is, this blush really does the trick!

Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
If you like to curl your lashes, this is the curler you need in your beauty arsenal. This silver wonder just does it better than every other one out there on the market.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara
We could talk up this mascara until we were blue in the face and it still wouldn’t be enough. It curls, it lengthens, it thickens, it comes in both waterproof and non-waterproof formulas and a bunch of colors, it generally makes eyes look amazing. Plus it’s in every makeup artist’s kit, so you just really can’t go wrong.

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20
Moisturizer. Sunscreen. Foundation/concealer. The prettiest hint of tint. Is there anything this little pinkish taupe tube doesn’t cover? (The answer would be no.)

L'Oreal Paris Youth Code BB Cream Illuminator

Last week we introduced you to L’Oreal Paris Youth Code BB Cream Illuminator, one of the newest multi-tasking creams aimed at improving the appearance of skin for a flawless look. After spending a couple of weeks using this product daily, I can honestly say Youth Code BB Cream delivers. At the risk of sounding overly enthusiastic, I might go so far as to say the cream is magic in a tube.

Over the years, I’ve tried many tinted moisturizers and, more recently, BB creams, so I was expecting more of the same from this product. After applying a pea-sized amount of the product, I was amazed at how even my skin looked with absolutely no sign of redness. Incredibly, my skin looked flawless and so natural with virtually no tell-tale signs of any product on my skin whatsoever. Did I mention this cream is magic?

Since first trying Youth Code BB Cream Illuminator, I have been using the product daily in place of my usual tinted moisturizer, and every day I marvel at how this cream can make my skin look so beautiful. I’m thrilled to add this to my list of must-use beauty products!

Youth Code BB Cream Illuminator instantly evens, illuminates, perfects, moisturizes, and protects skin. In one week, tone and texture are improved and skin is healthier looking.

While Natalie Portman was dabbling around with being a blonde, these former pop princesses were testing out some more radical hues. The typically blonde Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera both stepped out recently with technicolor ends. Britney’s ends were a mix of shocking pink and bright teal while Christina’s were a shimmery purple with a bit of pink mixed in at the very ends. It seems everyone from Katy Perry to Nikki Minaj has pulled off some crazy haircolors recently so this trend is certainly not new, but I have a feeling it’s not going anywhere, anytime soon.

Sarah-Hyland-Sparkly-Manicure-Emmys.jpgWhile watching the Emmy Awards the other day, our eyes alighted on one very specific beauty trend: sparkly French manicures. We’re normally not fans of the French mani, but when it’s done in cool colors, well … color us impressed!

The girl who really got it right? Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland. Her manicurist, Christina Aviles, created her manicure with a base of Essie Miss Fancy Pants and the sparkly tips in Essie Nothing Else Metals.

Julianne Hough also went for the sparkly French manicure, but Sarah’s is the one that really caught our eye.

Is this a trend you would try?
