aqualin.jpgTarte EmphasEYES™ Aqua-Gel Eyeliner captures the high-pigment concentration and staying power of a gel pot in an effortless pencil, without the need for a brush. The formula suspends rich mineral pigments in a 50% water concentration by a process of hydrous pigmentation, in which cooling and refreshing pure water absorbs into the skin to hydrate and replenish the delicate eye area, leaving behind an intense, long-wearing, and pigment-rich color.

EmphasEYES™ ingredients include:

- Pure water that suspends mineral pigments while delivering and retaining moisture to replenish and hydrate skin,-
- Aloe leaf extract known for its soothing, healing, and antiseptic properties, which maintain moisture balance in the skin,
- Vitamin E, which acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient and fights free radical damage,
- Cucumber extract, which is rich in vitamins A &C and helps soothe skin, and
- Mineral pigments, which have been known to soothe and soften the skin.

The best part is that due to the unique nature of this formula, you don't need to over advance the tip, so it lasts a while, so long as you remember to always securely replace the cap to prevent dry out.

You only need a little for intense color payoff, and it seriously doesn't move. We even wore it to the gym to test, and while the rest of our face was dewy, the liner DID NOT BUDGE, even from the waterline.

Available in 8 shades for $18, at Sephora.

Philosophy is known the world over for their skincare with whimsical names, such as their Hope in a Jar moisturizer, When Hope is Not Enough serum, and The Great Mystery Daily Facial. You may have salivated over their so-good-you-could-eat-it food inspired 3-in-1 bath gels (Red Velvet Cake, anyone?), or doused yourself in the heavenly Amazing Grace fragrance. But did you know that Philosophy has amazing makeup too?

Philosophy's the supernatural line is just that: super healthy, mineral-based, your-skin-but-better makeup. Standouts include:

  • Airbrushed Canvas- a high-pigment, talc-free foundation that conceals, camouflages and provides spf protection all in one easy step. best of all, it's safe for all skin types. Airbrushed Canvas looks natural and almost melts into skin, leaving you flawless with no tell tale makeup look or "shiny" appearance that other mineral powders can take on.
  • Superbeautiful Hybrid Liquid- a healthy, good-for-skin makeup infused with natural, plant-based moisturizers, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, and spf 20 to deliver sheer color, moisture and protection. Perfect for those who like the look and application of liquid makeup with the benefits of minerals. This one truly does double duty to keep skin flawless with or without makeup.
  • Lit From Within Cream Blush - a superblendable, creamy, natural mineral blush that moisturizes, refreshes and adds sheer, healthy color to cheeks. This cream is easily applied with fingers or brush (we prefer our fingers!), and makes skin glow.
  • You Make Me Blush Cheek Duo- a mineral powder duo creates a believable, natural flush of color for an all-over healthy look. The two shades complement each other, while also creating endless options for defining, highlighting, and accentuating features, all while remaining completely natural.
If you're like us, you want super-performing products that leave you looking your best...without looking like someone else...which is exactly what you'll get from Philosophy. Definitely worth a try!

The line retails between $22-$35, available nationwide at Sephora, or at Philosophy.com.

Tarte Lip Stains.jpg
We've been a fan of Tarte Cosmetics for a few years now, especially their coveted cheek stains. Which is reason enough to have been excited to hear that this natural makeup company recently released their Lipsurgence Natural Lip Stain

It's no secret that lip stains tend to be a bit drying. You put them on, and they instantly parch your lips, making a moisturizing lip balm an essential partner product. Tarte's Lipsurgence stains claim to increase your lip's moisture level by 6,000 percent in 28 days, and though there really is no way we could have quantified those numbers ourselves, we no doubt appreciated the soft, moisturizing effect achieved by this product.

We loved how the stain just glided right on in sheer layers, which could be built upon depending on how deep we wanted the color (we found the perfect shade by applying two layers, and blotting). The infused peppermint oil was a pleasant surprise, and had a great cooling effect. We tested Joy (peach), Lust (red), and Enchanted (rosey pink). Enchanted worked best with our tan skin tone for every day use, though we could definitely see ourselves playing up the Lust for a saucy night out.

Though we've used lip stains that have lasted longer, the most impressive part of Tarte's Lipsurgence Natural Lip Stain is the "natural" part. It's formulated without parabens, mineral oil, sodium laurel sulfate, glutens, talc, dyes, synthetic fragrances or phthalates. The price tag may be a bit steep compared to drugstore varieties, but a little goes very far, making the MSRP more than worth it in the long run.

Packed with deep, shimmering blues and icy greys and pinks for eyes and fresh rose shades for lips and cheeks, this limited edition Denim & Rose face palette is the beauty equivalent of dressed-up denim. Whether you're in the mood for flushed cheeks or a sparkling, smoky eye, you'll have plenty of options for day or night. The dark denim packaging is almost as pretty as the makeup within.

With the muggy weather we've been experiencing lately, naturally we are going CRAZY for Make Up For Ever's new Aqua Creams. MUFE claims the shades are crease-proof, smudge-proof, and even waterproof....but all we really hear is sweatproof!

IMG01302-20100525-1808.jpgThe line is divided into two types-- Eye & Cheek and Lip & Cheek-- though all can be worn wherever your heart desires. The colors are intensely pigmented with a shimmery, light-reflective finish. We decided to try one from each category, and chose #5, a peachy-pink with gold shimmer, and #15, a glistening grayish-taupe shade.

IMG01297-20100525-1804.jpgIMG01296-20100525-1804.jpgThe creams can be applied with fingers or a brush, though we had better experience with our fingertips. One swipe across the lid packed bold color, while blending it back and forth made the color more subtle. You can apply them to cheeks, eyes, lips, even as liner -- the possibility are truly endless.

IMG01300-20100525-1805.jpg Both colors were vibrant, easy to apply, light, and yes.... smudgeproof (seriously, they barely came off without proper makeup remover). These may even be bulletproof...but we'll just have to keep wondering about that one!

Available in 22 shades at $22 each (coincidence?) at sephora.com

natural-makeup.jpgSummer's almost here and you know what that means: Time to toss aside the rich foundations and matte creams in favor of lighter products that allow the skin to breathe. It's also time to give the evil eye to your gorgeous coworker/friend/sister who is lucky enough to be able to go completely bare-faced when temperatures soar.

Though you should ease up on the amount of cosmetics you use in the summer, it doesn't mean you need to give it up altogether. If you can't bear the thought of going without makeup (or aren't as lucky as Miss Baby Skin), we have some tips and recommendations to keep you looking beautiful and natural.

Tinted moisturizer
tinted.bmpDuring the hotter months, the last thing we want to do is pile heavy cream and powder foundations on top of our over-hated skin. If you must use a base, tinted moisturizers have come a long way in the last few years. Coverage ranges from sheer to medium, and are light enough to give you coverage while keeping you  cool and refreshed. Apply with fingers for more control, or with a damp sponge for a more sheer application. Bonus: the dampened sponge feels amazing on skin, especially when the weather is muggy.

Touch of Bronzer
bronze.bmpBronzer is perfect to warm you up and add a little color to pasty winter skin. Apply where the sun would naturally hit your face - forehead, nose, cheeks and chin-- with a fan-shaped brush to get a subtle, sun-kissed look.

(Pictured: Laura Mercier Golden Bronze Bronzing Powder $32, NARS Bronzing Powder $32, Guerlain Terracota Bronzing Powder $47)

Powder eyeliner
liner.bmpEyeliner can very easily go from sexy to smudged in the humid weather. If you're absolutey against going out without liner, trade your gels and liquids for a powder formula applied close to the lashline with a slanted or straight edged liner brush.

(Pictured: Chanel La Ligne Professional Eyeliner Duo $45, Illamasqua Cake Eyeliner $21, Laneige Multi Shaping Eyeliner $32)

Light eye shadow
shadow.bmpThere's nothing worse than a heavy, smoky eye in the summer....except a sweaty, creased smoky eye. Instead, keep shadow light in shades that compliment your skin. Tip:  Bronze and Gold hues look gorgeous with tanned skin and glossy lips.

(Pictured: NYX Eyeshadow Trio- Aloha/Mink Brown/DeepBronze $9, Bobbi Brown Pastel Eyeshadow Palette $57, Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Stardust $17)

Tinted lipbalm
lip.bmpHeavy lipsticks and glosses are the arch-enemy of tousled tresses in the summer wind, so skip both and opt for a tinted lip balm. These balms do double duty by moisturizing sun-chapped lips and adding the perfect sheer hint of color.

(Pictured: NARS Tinted Lip Balm in Sabrina $20, MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner $15, Dior Creme De Roses Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm $25)

Waterproof mascara
mascara.bmpThis is a no-brainer, but in case you need reminding: water/seat + regular mascara = raccoon eyes. NOT summer sexy. Most likely your favorite comes in a waterproof formula. Bonus? Waterproof mascaras tend to hold curl better. Hello gorgeous (budge-proof) lashes!

macpretapapier.jpgMAC Cosmetics' new summer 2010 collection has arrived and is perfect for those of you aiming for a more neutral look. As was expected, the collection entitled Pre-a-papier and inspired by 'Craft Paper Couture', encompasses a very muted palette and includes the usual suspects -- from lipstick to nail nail lacquers to paint pots -- all in very subtle tones. The stand out pieces are the Paint Pot in Soft Coral and the Lipstick in Dressmaker -- both soft, dreamy corals.

If you're into bold, stand out colors then this might not be the collection for you. But overall -- we're digging this muted palette and will be pairing it with our favorite summer looks!

Ah Spring. Longer days, warm weather...and an excuse to stock up on a slew of new nail colors. This season is all about nude and taupe nails. While we're definitely on team nude and agree they're great for a more natural look -- you've gotta mix it up with bolder, brighter hues. Right? Thank goodness oranges, purples and even metallics are hot this season too.

Spoil your nails with this season's must-have shades:
