Nail polish trends have gone a little wild since this past spring with textured nails and jewels, it’s no wonder the craziness is continuing. This fall, textured nails are still a thing, but they’ve become more subtle. Metallic nails are become increasingly popular, especially in the gunmetal grey colors, and purple and green are also trending. Whether it’s a lavender and hunter green or a vibrant purple and blue green shade, these two colors are being seen from all the major nail companies.

My favorite collection for fall I’ve seen, though, is the Essie-Fall 2013 4 Piece Cube Collection ($17). It combines all of the above trends with their own edge and style but made to match perfectly. Even seeing these polishes separately you know they belong in the same collection. My advice when buying new polishes for this season, start with this one!

The first key to enhancing your outward beauty is getting the right amount of sleep — this will enhance your inward beauty, too. Getting the right amount of ZZZs can be difficult if you have problems falling asleep, and sometimes you need the help of a little somethin-somethin to push you along. When I can’t sleep, I turn to pillow mists. These fragrant sprays are packed with aromatherapy ingredients that will help soothe and relax you so that you are able to fall asleep and stay asleep. I have a couple that I turn to whenever I’m feeling insomnia try to settle in.

Bath and Body Works Pillow Mist ($10, bathandbodyworks.com)

These come in three different formulas, one for stress relief specifically (Eucalyptus Spearmint) and two for sleep (Lavender Vanilla and Lavender Chamomile). Spritz a couple of short mists on your pillow before you go to sleep and you’ll find counting sheep will be a thing of the past.

L’Occitane Lavender Pillow Mist ($22, loccitane.com)

L’Occitane’s lavender pillow mist is made from a lavender essential oil from Haute-Provence. It smells divine and works wonders with just a couple sprays.

The Body Shop Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow & Body Mist (at The Body Shop stores)

This amazing mist does double duty — you can spray it on your pillow or on yourself if you’re in need of some extra aromatherapy. The scent is perfectly tailored to relieve your stress and lull you into a sleep.

After the harsh sun exposure and dryness from the summer heat, your skin is going to need some refreshing hydration to have an amazing glow for fall. No matter how many times a day you apply face lotion, it never seems to completely solve the problem, so I was determined to find something that would — and the Skinceuticals Retexturing Activator ($73) is the answer. This 30 ml bottle will give you the same, if not better, results of a spa treatment. The serum works deep into your skin and pores to reinforce the barrier for healthier and more radiant skin. After application, it simultaneously exfoliates the skin to get rid of any excess dead skin and hydrates to make sure that your face won’t look dried out and tired. Also, the serum will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles while leaving the surface of your skin looking smoother and softer.

With the turn of seasons comes the turn of colors. We’ve started saying goodbye to bright colors and hello to more matte neutrals and dark shades, but that doesn’t have to be the case with everything. I agree that fashion and nail and lip colors should go darker or stay neutral, but there is one makeup product that is just fine staying on the bright side of things and that’s your eyeliner.

This season is all about colored eyeliners, a trend that has been building steam since this spring, and I think it is finally going to catch on. There are two brands who’ve released new blue shades and I am all about them! Blue isn’t usually my first choice of colors but for some reason when it comes to eyeliner it is the first one I go for, maybe because it’s statement enough without being over-the-top like purple.

First up is the Revlon PhotoReady Kajal Intense Eye Liner + Brightener. This dual ended liner will help you create an intense line, but also brighten your eyes to make sure they pop. The blue pencil will give you a bold intense look while the light white can be placed in the corner to give your eyes added dimension. The creamy formula allows for an effortless application and smooth lines.

The next blue liner on my list is the Smashbox Always Sharp Waterproof Kohl Liner, which comes in black, brown, brown with shimmer, green, navy, nude, prune, and smoke grey (with a blue tint). The color on the top of my list is definitely the navy, but I also really like the grey. Now navy is a color I never wear, but I love the idea of it for a liner because it gives you the edge you’re looking for but with a more subtle approach than the bright blue. My absolute favorite part about this liner is the self sharpener. Nothing is more annoying than having to sharpen an eyeliner and having it break in those cheap sharpeners. With this pencil, simply twist off the cap and it automatically sharpens itself. This insures an exact line every time.

Now that summer is unofficially over and the fall weather is upon us, we can say goodbye to the days of natural highlights and sun-kissed streaks. Although I like to keep my hair in the red family year round, I have to admit I enjoy getting the natural highlights the sun gives me throughout the summer. So naturally when the summertime is gone, it becomes more difficult to get these highlights without paying an arm and a leg or using a box kit. Now don’t get me wrong, I use box hair dye when I’m coloring my whole head, but I have seen too many tragedies when trying to achieve highlights for me to even consider trying it at home. Luckily, after some research I found two products I would recommend that don’t come with hair dye.

My first recommendation is the Oribe 24k Gold Pomade ($49). Although the price seems a little steep for a 50 ml container, it is well worth trying out. The pomade is made with pro-vitamin B5, which nourishes and moisturizes while strengthening and improving the condition of your hair, even in extreme humidity. Also, it includes Ultrasil Copolyol-1 that works to condition and add shine to you hair throughout the day. Your hair will be infused with rich-gold highlights the minute you apply it and it will also keep your hair out of you face for the entire day. Best of all, it’s Paraben-free, a UV protectant, and color safe.

The next recommendation is the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Shampoo ($6.49). The first thing that caught my eye about this, besides the price being unbeatable, is the fact that there are different formulas for different hair colors. To me, this is one of the most important things when looking for such a product — how can a company guarantee there will be the same result for different shades? The product’s formula includes honey and oatmeal, which work together gently to remove darkening and dulling buildup. The result, a full spectrum of blonde tones. SImply replace your current shampoo with the highlighting activator and watch your blonde shine through.
