Aveda Global Creative Director Antoinette Beenders calls this ponytail creation a sleek high performance ponytail — but when it stepped out at the Osklen Spring/Summer 2014 show at New York Fashion Week I knew we had a hit style for fall. Antoinette Beenders tells you step by step how to recreate this versatile style.

Step 1: Prep hair with Aveda Smooth Infusion™ Style-Prep Smoother™ and blow dry straight with a round brush.
Step 2: Flat iron hair in sections, beginning at the back of the head and moving forward. Spray a light coat of Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray to each section before ironing to ensure a sleek, totally straight finish.
Step 3: Part hair across the crown of the head, creating two sections. Gather the bottom section into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with elastic.
Step 4: Part the top section of hair on the right side of the head at a slight diagonal, creating two sections of hair.
Step 5: Separate a small section of hair from the back of the right section with a fine tooth comb. Saturate each section with Aveda Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray and comb back toward the nape of the neck, tight to the head. Layer each section over the previous to create a sleek, smooth side.
Step 6: Gather this section at the nape and cross over the top of the ponytail and clip.
Step 7: Repeat the process on the left section, but coat each section of hair with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray for a softer, contrasting texture.
Step 8: Gather the left section and cross over the ponytail. Release the right side, wrap ends under the ponytail and tie into a knot. Secure with hair pins. Use a flat iron to flatten any loose ends and create a sleek, cohesive ponytail.
Step 9: Using a color brush, paint the right side of the hair with a generous layer of Aveda Brilliant™ Retexturing Gel to create a liquid effect.

Having the right powder and primer is one of the most essential steps in applying makeup on a daily basis. For women who wear makeup every day, you know how easily your skin becomes dry and cakey. Properly moisturizing along with priming the skin for application is the best thing you can do and on top of that, it can save you money. Makeup artist secret: we barely ever use super expensive foundation or bronzer, what we do is spend our money on is the primer, which can have the potential to turn any brand into high definition makeup. One of the newest products to hit shelves this fall is the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pressed Powder ($30). It adjusts to any skin tone while minimizing the appearance of pores, fine lines and wrinkles. The powder is also very versatile, it can be worn alone or under and over foundation to prep skin, keep makeup in place, as well as control shine for a smooth and flawless finish.

I have just returned from Jamaica where I spent six days in paradise doing nothing but laying by the pool and swimming with dolphins. On top of being completely relaxed by the pool, I also treated myself to an amazing massage as well as a milk bath, which at first I was not too excited about because it didn’t sound too appealing, but I was never so happy to try something new. The bath left me feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and nourished. One of the most important things after being out in the sun or anything that can be harmful to your skin is to make sure it stays moisturized and nourished. Because I felt so amazing, I was determined to do some research and find a milk bath I could use at home.

The Elemis Skin Nourishing Milk Bath ($74) provides all the necessities you get from a spa treatment without the hassle of driving there and the damage to your bank account. The balancing formula is a special milk protein base, rick in vitamins, amino acids and minerals. It also consists of natural plant collagen from Japanese camellia oil and oat extract, which will leave your skin feeling silky. This bath is great for extremely dry skin and treating skin conditions. It will leave your skin feeling nourished and satin soft!

Solange Knowles has an amazing sense of personal style — she knows how to have fun with fashion and her look and isn’t afraid to be bold in the statements she makes. So I was not surprised to see her rocking a natural and beautiful afro, but I was drawn to her full, thick eyebrows. I’ve got horribly sporadic eyebrows that just don’t look good grown out because they’re not full, they’re just there. Solange, however, has perfect grown-out eyebrows, they’ve got an amazing arch and they’re wonderfully full.

Normally when you hear the word anti-aging formula, the first thing you’re going to think of is a face or eye cream, not shampoo. I’d assume this because as someone who works in the beauty industry, that was the last thing that came to my mind, but to my surprise, shampoo is now going to be a product associated with anti-aging formulas thanks to companies like Caviar and the Anti-Aging Volume Shampoo. They aren’t the only company with such a product, but it’s the only one I’ve found that I would try because it combines two of my favorite things: rejuvenated hair and volume.

The shampoo features a very similar formula to that of an anti-aging cream. It attracts, retains and rebalances moisture while protecting the color and improving the overall dry and brittle hair. It’s formulated with Seasilk, Color Hold, and UVA/UVB protectants to shield from color fade, daily environmental stresses and future damages. The anti-aging aspect is composed of Caviar extract, Vitamin C and Cytokines for stronger, healthier and younger-looking locks. Although the anti-aging shampoo is more expensive than a normal shampoo you’d pick up at a drugstore, you’ll love the results.
