Makeup-Artistry-Image.jpgWe can talk until we’re blue in the face about what to do with your hair, your makeup, your nails … but sometimes it’s just better to hear it straight from the pros, right? We rounded up some tried-and-true tips from some of our favorite makeup artists, hairstylists and manicurists just for you. Check out each pro’s number one beauty tip!

“When lining the lips, apply lipstick or gloss BEFORE liner. Dry lips can make it difficult to apply liner evenly.” - Kayleen McAdams (her sister is celebrity Rachel McAdams!)

“Use an illuminator on the cheeks under foundation for beautiful, long-lasting radiance.” - Rosalina Da Silva, key makeup artist for movies like TRON and Sucker Punch

“Use a good skincare routine, including sunscreen, before blending a small amount of liquid foundation onto your face for a radiant glow.” - Robin Siegel, makeup artist for celebrities including Kyra Sedgwick and the former makeup artist for Friends

“ALWAYS never say ‘always and never’ when it comes to makeup. Use your imagination! Have fun with your look! Remember, makeup is the ultimate disposable accessory … it washes off!” - Gregory Arlt, Director of Makeup Artistry for M.A.C Cosmetics

“Always keep a hair elastic, pen and four bobby pins in your purse. You can be hair ready in 5 minutes for anything. The possibilities are endless with those three items.” - Janine Jarman, former contestant on Shear Genius

“Don’t worry if you are crazy messy when you paint your nails. Only worry about getting two thin, even coats on them. Let nails dry overnight, then after a hot shower, brush nails with olive oil and a toothbrush. A crisp, perfect paint job will appear!” - Nonie Creme, founder of cult favorite butter LONDON

“When it comes to makeup, be willing to try something new and step out of your normal routine without compromising your confidence! If you feel good about the way you look, it will show through in more ways than just the products on your face.” - Jenna Menard, Clinique Global Color Artist

“If you use a quarter tablespoon of vinegar in your shampoo, it will act as a natural clarifying shampoo to remove buildup from product.” - Ted Gibson, celebrity hairstylist (for Ashley Greene, Anne Hathaway, Brooklyn Decker and countless others!)

“For fast, flawless skin, always do all eye makeup first. Because excess eyeshadow falls under the eyes, it’s easier to wipe off the mess on bare skin and then apply your normal concealer or foundation. It’s a bigger headache to try to blend fallen eyeshadow onto made-up skin.” - Mai Quynh, celebrity makeup artist (she’s made up Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and more gorgeous starlets)

“When waving your hair, hold the ends stationary while wrapping the hair around the iron as opposed to regular curling. This makes for a more natural, beachy look.” - Alex Polillo, hairstylist for Andy Lecompte Salon
januaryeyes_smh.jpgTalk about futuristic. Madmen actress January Jones’ makeup couldn’t be farther from the trends of the 60s. On two different occasions, the premiere of X-Men: First Class on May 25th (right) and the premiere of Unknown back in February (left), January used a broad stroke of matte eyeshadow that not only covered the lid, but also the area between the eye and nose.

January might be alone on this trend. It doesn’t work with dark shades (hello, raccoon eyes!), but could be fun to experiment with lighter shades. Unfortunately, her orange eyes and bright red lips combination is a little much, but we’ll definitely try this eye effect with a lighter lip color.
Alba-Botanica-Natural-Acnedote-Invisible-Treatment-Gel.jpgMost of the products in our skincare routine are, admittedly, quite expensive. So when we came across Alba Botanica Natural ACNEdote Invisible Treatment Gel, we have to say we were a bit skeptical. How could a good skincare product—and an acne-fighter at that—be under $10? Well, color us surprised and delighted, because this little tube WORKS.

We’ve tried pretty much every pimple fighter out there, and most just don’t work. They claim to get rid of pimples in a matter of hours, and you know what? They don’t. But Alba Botanica’s version? It actually does make pimples disappear in two days or less! And we’re not just talking tiny zits, either. We tried it on a couple really horrible ones—you know, the really inflamed kind that are super deep under the skin—and it got rid of THEM. IN TWO DAYS.

Pardon our use of caps, but we just couldn’t believe our eyes when those pimples were gone! This is due to the fabulous array of ingredients inside this little tube, like willow bark extract (which contains salicylic acid, treating and preventing acne), licorice and lentil extracts (to neutralize acne-causing bacteria and combat shine), and organic aloe and chamomile (to soothe and calm inflammation).

The product claims to deliver clearer skin in just four hours. And before you scoff, listen up. It DOES! We recommend applying just a tiny amount to the inflamed area 1-2 times a day, and we guarantee that pimple will be gone in no time. And a bonus? It doesn’t even feel sticky after it’s applied.

What a miracle!

hempsoapfull_smh.jpg
I rely 100% on moisturizer to soothe my skin. When it comes to soap bars, I’m just looking for a fresh scent which is why I was immediately intrigued by Dr. Bronner’s line of organic hemp soaps. I’d love to try the citrus orange and baby mild scents, but my local grocery store only carries peppermint and lavender. If I had two soap holders, I’d use peppermint for morning showers and lavender for evening baths. I settled on lavender and so far so good.

What do you look for first in a soap? Moisturizing or smell?

Caress-Sheer-Twilight-Body-Wash.jpgIn case you were wondering, we love everything Caress does. But we were wishing and hoping for a new body wash from the line … and, luckily, Caress Fine Fragrance Elixirs Sheer Twilight Body Wash has come to the rescue.

A combination of black orchid and juniper oil are contained within fragrance pearls. When released, they create an aroma that’s incredibly intoxicating, delicious and sensuous—and at the same time totally calming.

The fragrance is inspired by exotic blossoms at the peak of their bloom. So divine, right? Plus, the color of the body wash—a deep, deep purple—is beautiful and looks so nice in the shower.

Caress Fine Fragrance Elixirs Sheer Twilight Body Wash retails for $4.39 at drugstore.com.
