OK, so sometimes, prestige makeup brands (think M.A.C., Nars, Lorac, etc), are really worth the price tag. They deliver on their promises. Their products last on your skin and don’t rub off the moment you put your hand up to your chin in an extended, deep thought. But sometimes, you can find the same powerful punch in a very valuable package.

Carmex, the company that makes the classic healing lip balms, has just introduced a new skin care line designed to heal, soothe and moisturize dry skin. It stands to reason that what has been keeping lips healthy for over 70 years would also be beneficial for your skin, so we were more than happy to give Carmex Healing Lotion and Carmex Healing Cream a test drive.
The Healing Lotion is designed to use anywhere skin feels dry and contains rich healing ingredients, including Aloe and Vitamin E to nourish and moisturize skin. The Healing Cream is for use on your driest skin, especially hands, feet, elbows and knees. It’s super concentrated and contains 9 healing ingredients to penetrate and repair very dry, rough or cracked skin.
Both formulas were made using a patent pending process that delivers healing and moisturization without a greasy feel. And let me tell you, it’s true! Amazingly, both formulas absorb in seconds, leaving absolutely no slippery residue, even from the Healing Cream which is the thicker of the two products.
Anyone who has ever used Carmex lip balm knows the scent - a vaguely medicinal smell resulting from camphor and menthol ingredients. The smell alone is oddly soothing, as it alludes to the healing properties within. The Healing Lotion and Healing Cream contain notes of the classic Carmex scent but mixed with vanilla and other fragrances to create a light, pleasing smell.
As for moisturizing properties, there are many. As stated, the cream works better on dryer skin, making it the perfect winter skin companion. The lotion is ideal for warmer months or skin that isn’t intensely dry. And at only $5.99 each, I definitely recommend adding this to your body care regime. Available at Walgreens and drugstore.com.

Ready to give your lips a little bling? There’s nothing better than Sally Hansen Diamond 12 Hour Lip Treatment. This lipgloss is so uber-sparkly, we’re betting the glitz can be seen from space. This lipgloss is super moisturizing and hydrating, promising to condition lips for up to 12 hours. And that’s fairly unheard of in a gloss! Time-release Lipid Moisture Complex and Retinal, combined with microfine diamonds, bring a radiant and glittery finish to any lip look.
We love layering these glosses on top of other glosses or lipsticks — especially Solitaire, a gorgeous peachy pink that looks amazing with every single skin tone.
So what are you waiting for? It’s time to bring on the bling.
Sally Hansen Diamond 12 Hour Lip Treatment retails for $5.99 at walgreens.com.
Over the past few years, we’ve tested more lip sticks, glosses and balms than we could possibly count, all promising numerous benefits with varying results. To start with, this leave-in conditioner takes the form of a spray rather than a cream or gel. It’s extremely lightweight and sinks right into the hair shaft with no unsightly residue. Hair becomes softer and smoother upon impact — even ours, which is admittedly hard to style and even harder to get a brush through without at least two conditioning products every time we wash it. We’ve found that about 10 spritzes throughout the hair, then working the product from the roots all the way down the hair shaft, leaves behind unbelievably shiny and silky tresses.
Not to mention we just feel like a true Pantene model after blowdrying.
Pantene Pro-V Medium-Thick Hair Solutions Silkening Detangler retails for $3.39 at drugstore.com.
