At the Keep a Child Alive Blackball Gala, many of Hollywood’s humanitarians turned out to show their support. Elegance was an obvious theme, and Paula Patton’s own elegant look really caught our attention.

Ursula Stephen, Celebrity Stylist for Motions hair products, created Paula’s gorgeous pompadour-esque hairstyle, proving once again that red-carpet looks never have to break the bank. Here’s the inside scoop on how this show-stopping style was created:

motionslightstylingfoam.jpg

Ursula applied a Motions Light Styling Foam ($5.99, amazon.com) all over Paula’s hair, then blew it dry in an upward direction for volume.

Using a 1 1/4” curling iron, waves were created throughout her hair.

With a fine-toothed comb, emphasizing on the crown, Ursula teased the hair.

motionslightspritz.jpgUsing her fingers, Ursula gently pulled hair into a twist while keeping the sides smooth, without losing volume at the crown, and secured with small hair pins.

The look was finished with Motions Light Hold Working Spritz ($4.99, drugstore.com).

sallyhansen_insta-dri_nail_polish.jpg

As beauty-loving women, we like to have our tips and toes polished. We love experimenting with the latest color trends as well as sticking to the classics. But as busy women, we don’t always have the time to sit and wait for our nails to dry. Thankfully, Sally Hansen created a great solution that we love: Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color.  Available in 24 colors, it says it dries in 60 seconds. We, however find that after a little less than 2 minutes it’s completely the-polish-isn’t-going-anywhere dry. Once it is, we enjoy a lasting, good-looking finish that is strong and wears 3-5 days without chipping. Available in 24 shades. $4.99, cvs.com

In Our Makeup Bag

Our love for beauty products is never ending— we can’t get enough. We do, however, use products that, no matter what, we have with us at all times. From a mascara that makes our lashes look like falsies, to a powder that eliminates shine without making our skin look cakey and fake, to a creamy blush that can be applied without a mirror (it’s flush looks sheer and natural) — these are our makeup bag must-haves, and yes, they’re that good.

Celebrities like Lauren Conrad, Rachel Bilson, Eve Mendes and Michelle Tractenberg all have something in common— they love to rock blue nails. Wearing everything from deep navy to aquamarine, these ladies prove that you can go bold without going over-the-top. Another lesson to be learned? If you want to experiment with a more daring look, the best place to start is on your nails. Check out a few of our favorite blue hues.
