pssssssst.jpgThis may sound a little greedy, but we occasionally come across a drugstore find so great, we’re hesitant to share. But we love you so much we couldn’t hold out! For $5.99, Psssssst Instant Spray Shampoo is the perfect way to skip shampoo - or two - and still look like you stepped right out of a blow out. And trust us, we’ve tried our share of instant shampoos and this one is by far the best bang for your buck.

It smells good too. $5.99 at drugstore.com
The warm weather has finally arrived, and with it, the search for lighter, fresher scent (our deliciously rich and musky Narciso Rodriguez just isn’t going to cut it during the sweltering months).

Here are four of our top picks for Spring:

ss3.bmp1. Marc Jacobs Splash Biscotti ($68 for 10oz, Sephora)
Notes: Freesia, Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Pistachio Blossom, Vanilla…. though we swear we can smell anise as though we were rubbing freshly baked goods on our skin! This one starts out sweet, and dries down to a deliciously tempting scent that makes you want to keep smelling your arm… or eat it off.

2. Balenciaga ($95 for 1.7 oz, Neiman Marcus)
Notes: Bergamot, Spices, Pepper,V iolet, Carnation, Oakmoss, Cedar, Vetiver, Patchouli, Labdanum. Reminiscent of those childhood lavender splashes mom used to douse you with post-bath… but way more grown up. 3.

3. Marc Jacobs Daisy In The Air ($57 for 1.7 oz, Sephora) Notes: Strawberry, Violet Leaves, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Gardenia, Violet Petals, Jasmine Petals, Musk, Vanilla, White Woods. Original, Black, Silver, Garland…the bottles tend to rotate, but the scent is always the same: amazingly fresh, yet somehow, completely decadent.

4. CHLOE Eau De Fleurs Lavande  ($135 for 100ml, Bloomingdale’s)
Notes: Lavender, Bergamot, Violet, Tea, Iris, Musk, Vetiver and Ambergris. This is the most interesting scent of the bunch, and is definitely one of those stop-on-the-street “what are you wearing?” scents.

Wait….what?

Yes, you read that correctly. Nars Cosmetics will introduce his new Pro Prime line with a campaign fronted by none other than his own adorable pooch, Marcel.

nars-pro-prime-590.jpgPro Prime, which is designed to smooth skin, fill in fine lines, and keep makeup in place, launches on May 1st at Sephora with two products, Skin Smoothing Face Prep and Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base. Face Prep, an innovative new type of primer, is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic, and is infused with film-former and anti-caking agents that create a temporary barrier on the skin to ensure instant smoothness. Eyeshadow Base uses a combination of polymers and mineral powder and helps prevent smudging, creasing and caking of powder and cream eye shadow formulas.

In the campaign, the wrinkled face of possibly the cutest french bulldog in history stares from the ad wearing only a furry collar and his golden name tag, accompanied by the quote “More than a Pretty Face”. Nars plans to release more photos of Marcel in the coming weeks, along with tips on keeping your makeup long lasting, on their Facebook page. Become a fan here, if you can stand the cute overload.

Available May 1st, at Sephora.

If you’re one of the thousands upon thousands of people making the trek out to the California desert this weekend for Coachella, then please remember to protect your skin! This season is shaping up to be slightly cooler than most (like high 80s vs. high 100s), but you’ll still need to make a conscious effort to stay protected.

Here are a couple SPF-infused ideas:

Q. I have really bad dark circles and have tried every eye cream to get rid of them. I use a heavy Mac concealer to hide them but still not satisfied. Do you recommend anything that can get rid of them or brighten them? I want the under eye area to glow like all the models on the magazines. Do you have any recommendations?

th.bmpA. In a perfect world we’d all get enough sleep and always look fresh and rested. Of course that almost never happens, so we did some research for you.

First, the basics- make sure you stay well hydrated, get as much rest as you can (but not TOO much!), and reduce salt intake… after all, bags are really just fluid retention around the eye area that causes swelling, which in turn crates shadows and “darkness”. In most cases the dark circles are blood vessels that can be seen through the skin, and nothing short of laser procedures to break up the pigmentation are going to get rid of them.

You can MASK them with concealer, and also with products made to reduce puffiness caused by lack of sleep, illness, or allergies— all of which cause the eye area to swell which in turn draw attention to the dark areas. For these, you don’t need anti-aging eye creams loaded with wrinkle reducers… a simple, lightweight cream or gel with caffeine (caffeine constricts blood vessels, making them appear less prominent) should do the trick. We really like rollerballs, like the Garnier Nutritioniste Anti Puff Eye Roller. The bonus of the roller ball  is that it gently massages the area, breaking up the pocket of collected fluid and alleviating the darkness.

To conceal, we swear by Lancomes Effacernes. Highly pigmented, thin and buildable so it never cakes, and best of all- WATERPROOF. A bit pricey for some at almost $30 a tube, but you use so little to get great coverage that a tube seriously lasts a year or more. If you need something heavier, check out this post we did last week on SmartCover. It seriously covers EVERYTHING.

(On a side note, anemia can also cause darkness under the eye, so if you’re feeling tired all of the time— it may not be lack of sleep. It might be worth it to have a check up and ask the doctor to check your iron levels.)

Hope that helped!
