Of course we knew the stars of the Great Gatsby would bring their A-List beauty game to the highly anticipated premiere of the film at Lincoln Center in New York City on May 1. But what we didn’t expect was that Gatsby co-star Isla Fisher would steal the spotlight with her deep hot pink lip, retro black cat eyeliner, and super glam deep side part and waves. Ok! Magazine spilled the full details on the retro look straight from Fisher’s makeup artist Katye Denno. With the exception of one product, the look was done completely with organic and natural makeup brands. Denno’s inspiration for the look was to make Isla look like an “old-time, glamorous Hollywood movie star.” Mission definitely accomplished.

Jamie Greenberg, mark’s Celebrity Makeup Artist, wanted ‘Mad Men’ star Jessica Pare’s look to be “glamorous, neat and conservative. We decided to go for a clean girly look: all pinks, and a tight line on the lid and lashes.” We got the full scoop from Jamie herself on just how to recreate Jessica’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner look.

Eyes: “I started by applying mark Please Hold Eye Primer to create a strong base. Next, I swiped the light pink shade from mark On the Dot Pastel Eye Color Compact onto Jessica’s lids. I framed the eyes using mark Get in Line Hook Up Liquid Waterproof Liner in Painted Black and finished the look by applying mark Lash All You Want High-Volume Mascara in Black on Jessica’s top and bottom lashes.”

Face & Cheeks: “I started by applying mark Primed for Perfection Face Primer to create a strong base. Next, I applied mark Got the Goods Multi-Benefit Foundation Lotion SPF 15 in Very Light 2 to moisturize and even the skin. I blended mark Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint in Cheeky into Jessica’s cheekbones, followed by mark That’s Brilliant Face & Eye Luminizer for a natural flush and gorgeous highlight. I set the look by applying mark Matte-Nificent Oil-Absorbing Powder on Jessica’s T-zone.”

Lips: “I applied mark Lipclick Full Color Lipstick in Baby Luv to complete the sweet, girly look.”

I spent a lot of my youth questioning the need for primer. Was this all some big ploy to get me to spend more money? What do they even really do? What I’ve since discovered is that while a primer may not need to become a part of your daily beauty routine, the times you need a good primer in your life tend to be those moments where you need to look like the best version of yourself. Preferably all day and night long.

Primer should be used when your makeup needs extra staying power, or a little extra oomph. Have a photo shoot or an event where you know you’ll be striking a pose in numerous pictures? Prime time. An added benefit to the staying power of primer is the decreased appearance of fine lines on your face, creating a more flawless complexion. Primers are also a go-to in warmer months when sweat seems to be fighting to slide the makeup off of your face. Here are my picks for four primers that are able to fight the good fight. And win.

Korres Face Primer: A silicone-free, anti-oxidant and Vitamin-E rich option.
Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer: Mineral-based, water-resistant primer that aims to create a “smooth canvas”.
Too Faced Primed and Poreless: Retinol, Vitamin A & C, and mulberry extract make it a uniquely potent primer.
Benefit Cosmetics Stay Don’t Stray: Lightly tinted eye primer for use under concealer or eyeshadow.

Do not even think about showing off your cutest sandals unless you’ve prepared your feet for public viewing — this applies to flip flops, too. But don’t think that you have to run to the salon and part with your hard earned dollars to get your feet ready.
To start with you’ll  need some basic tools:
  • Nail Clipper
  • Pumice Stone
  • Nail Brush
Step one is soaking feet in the tub or in a large bowl of warm water. You don’t need to use any special type of soap, just something to get the skin clean. After letting them soak for a couple minutes it’s time to scrub them, The Body Shop has a great scrub called Peppermint Cooling Pumice Foot Scrub. I usually follow up after the scrub with a rub down from the pumice stone, but The Body Shop scrub does have pumice in it, so you might find it worked its magic on all those rough spots. After you’ve rinsed off all the scrub stuff you should pat feet dry and finish up with a deep, soothing lotion. L’Occitane just added a foot lotion called Foot Care to their Amande (almond) line — it smells and feels amazing, and has a powdery finish that dries instantly on feet.

As a woman with curly hair, I have long been a fan of John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease product line. Taming frizz requires a multi-pronged approach that includes the products you use on your hair, a good haircut, and styling techniques that help reduce the amount of frizz often present in naturally curly hair. Of course, the haircut and styling techniques differ for every person and type of hair, but there are products that work for a wide variety of hair types, and Frizz-Ease is certainly one of them.

Fighting frizz starts with what you use to wash your hair, and I’m currently loving Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner. These salon quality products aim to mend damaged hair and block frizz in the shower for smooth, easy styling. A Frizz-Mending Complex and silk protein help seal split ends and restore hair’s natural frizz defense. Not only does it have that “salon smell” that I love in a shampoo and conditioner, but it truly leaves my hair looking soft and smooth.

On days when frizz isn’t as much of a concern, I like to concentrate on giving my fine hair some volume. This is where Luxurious Volume Touchably Full Shampoo and Conditioner comes in. Specially formulated to transform fine, flat hair into “salon-caliber, natural-looking volume,” it is a weightless formula that prevents hair from looking limp and lifeless. My current hair regime alternates between these two products and the Frizz-Ease products to help keep my hair looking its best.

These are just a few of the salon quality John Frieda hair care products available. For more information, including video tutorials and product videos, visit walmart.com.
