Vaseline-Petroleum-Jelly.jpg

You know those products that are probably sitting around your house—or maybe your parents’ house—without you giving any thought to them in years? Well, maybe it’s time to take a second look, especially when it comes to Vaseline Petroleum Jelly.

I recently picked up a tube of this that was laying around my mom’s house, and I have to say, I was totally amazed at how many beauty-related things it could do. The two that really spoke to me, though, are these:

1) It works as a fantastic lip balm! It softens and smooths even the most chapped lips instantly.

2) It moisturizes dry knees and elbows! Mine tend to be super ashy and scaly, but with a couple days of rubbing Vaseline on them? Like a baby’s bottom.

And the best part? It’s under $5! What could be better?

Vaseline Petroleum Jelly retails for $3.09 at diapers.com.

Bold-Eyeshadow-Summer-2012-Trend-Runway.jpgWant to know how to look beautiful—and totally on trend this summer? Over the next few weeks, we’ll be bringing you the beauty trends you need to know about and incorporate into your routine, stat—and the products that will give you the looks in a flash.

Up first? Brightly hued eye makeup. We’re talking green and blue, sure … but it’s going so much further than that this season. Think red, think orange, think yellow, think the entire color wheel and the entire rainbow! From Moschino Cheap and Chic and Vivienne Westwood Red Label to Miu Miu and Rebecca Taylor, eyes were the focus on the runways. This look definitely isn’t for the faint of heart, but it is a ton of fun with only a couple sweeps of an eyeshadow brush.

To get the look, try these eyeshadows!

We especially love the bright purple, turquoise and orange shades of this creamy gel formula.

NYX Single Eyeshadow in Cherry
If you really want to make a statement, there’s no bolder color than red. And why should this color be restricted to your lips and tips?

M.A.C Electric Eel Eyeshadow
This super-bright turquoise is a cult favorite for a reason. The satin finish is unbelievably pigmented and makes your eyes the focal point of any room.

NARS Rated R Eyeshadow Duo
What could be better than one bright shadow? How about two? This palette contains a shimmering chartreuse and electric cobalt that will both really make your eyes pop—and are extremely versatile.

While a lot of celebs are still going the nude nail route, some are stepping up their game with bright red nails. They’re bringing out their inner vixen and vamp, and we have to say we’re totally on board! Red nails jazz up anything, from jeans and tees to dramatic gowns. Check out what some of the celebs have been doing with their red nails lately. (And we’re especially loving this, since today is July 4!)

Rose-Byrne-Red-Nails.jpgRose Byrne teamed her white Valentino dress with bold red nails for the premiere of Damages.

Dita-Von-Teese-Red-Nails.jpgBurlesque queen Dita von Teese paired her signature red lip with equally red nails, which looked super glamorous with her black fit-and-flare dress in Paris.

Jessie-J-Red-Nails.jpgSinger Jessie J is no stranger to bold fashion and beauty looks, and teaming bright red nails with her pajama-inspired black and white ensemble is just so fun and kitschy.

Blake-Lively-Red-Nails.jpgFor the premiere of her new movie, Savages, Blake Lively brought the drama with red nails and a sexy Zuhair Murad couture gown.

The-New-Black-Runway-Nail-Polish-Set.jpgOnce in awhile, we come across a product that’s so cool, we just have to buy it immediately. (Well, when we’re in Sephora, that seems to happen more than once in awhile.) In any case, that’s what happened when we discovered The New Black Runway Color Barometer 8-Piece Nail Polish Set.

For starters, this brand just creates such cool colors and sets. We want every single one! But the Runway set really spoke to us, because the 8 colors are just so unbelievably gorgeous.

The 8 colors here definitely span the color wheel. Red, orange, yellow, green, you name it, you’ll find it here. And they all come in fabulous names like Orange Crush and Mint Tea Shimmer. Each polish is chip-resistant, super glossy and opaque in 1-2 coats.

Plus, they’re all adorable minis—so we have a much better chance of actually finishing the bottles!

The New Black Runway Color Barometer 8-Piece Nail Polish Set retails for $32 at sephora.com.
Best-Sunscreens-For-Body-2012.jpgLast week we brought you our 2012 installment of the best sunscreens for face. Do you really think we would leave body out of the equation? Check out the sunblocks and sunscreens we’re totally loving this year, which of course keep your body protected from the sun and looking its absolute best!

Avon ANEW Solar Advance Sunscreen Body Lotion
This lotion has quickly become one of our go-to sunscreens of the summer, thanks to its sweet yet not saccharine scent and the fact that it sinks into skin immediately. Plus the SPF 30 means we won’t burn on 97 degree days.
$24 at avon.com

Lavanila The Healthy Sunscreen SPF 30 Body Cream
With protectants against harmful UVA and UVB rays, this sunscreen already made the cut. Add in a rich formula (without any greasy residue) and a deliciously subtle vanilla scent and we’re hooked.
$38 at beauty.com

Kiehl’s Activated Sun Protector Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50
We love a good SPF 50 for beach days (or laying out on the roof of a spectacular NYC apartment or gym). This one’s non-greasy formula—seriously, absolutely no evidence of it being on the skin only seconds after applying—plus the fact that a little goes a long way—makes it a sure standout.
$23 at kiehls.com

CoTZ Pure The Healthier Sunscreen
Formulated with ingredients like shea butter, this one almost melts into the skin. We love that it’s water-resistant, too.
$19.99 at ulta.com

Josie Maran SPF 30+ Argan Sun Protection for Body
Argan oil is good for pretty much anything, from shiny hair to restoring moisture to the skin. And, since our skin tends to get dried out pretty fast in the sun, we’re totally loving this sunscreen with natural ingredients and—you guessed it—argan oil.
$24 at sephora.com

Neutrogena SPF 70 Ultra Sheer Body Mist Sunblock
Not a year goes by that we don’t include this in our favorite sunscreens of all time. For a mist, it really covers every inch of the body amazingly well, with absolutely no greasy residue left behind. Plus it rings in at under 10 bucks.
$9.89 at drugstore.com
