When we saw the photos of British singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s performance last month at London hotspot G-A-Y, we knew we had to feature her bold makeup. As crazy as acid green glittery liquid eyeshadow sounds, we actually think this look really works.

Sophie’s skin is so flawless, it’s a perfect canvas to do something daring. She’s also pulling the colors directly from her print dress so it’s not so random. Unless you’re a performer, we suggest going with just one of these trends — either a daring eye or a bright lip. And if you are brave enough to go for that eye, back it up with faux lashes that stand up to the bright lids.

We like Urban Decay’s Heavy Metal Glitter Liner ($18 at sephora.com). The description says it all: “Play it soft by painting on precise, crystalline lines with the top of the thin brush. Or wear it loud by sweeping the side of the brush to create entirely jewel-encrusted eye looks.”
jenamalone_smh.jpgWatercolor is shaping up to be a big trend this spring in fashion and home decor. We really dug the watercolor-print Juan Carlos Obando dress Jena Malone wore to the London ‘Sucker Punch’ premiere and we also loved that she (or, her makeup artist) mirrored the dress’ print on Jena’s lids as well. Along with the ultraviolet blush and lipstick, it is such a pretty look.

That’s not shimmering shadow though, friends. That’s a liner within a liner on top of shadow. We recommend Benefit’s High Brow if you’re going for a similar look. And, just to be perfectly clear here, we are recommending you go for a similar look.

Lea Michele’s shimmering blue eyeliner looks like something her glitter-loving Glee character Rachel Berry would experiment with at Regionals, but here she is pulling it off at last months’ Vanity Fair Oscar Party. So what made this look less high school and more high fashion?

Lea’s peachy/pink lip and simple ponytail keeps the look simple, but we’re not sure if it would have worked if she wasn’t wearing a dress made out of blue sequins. What do you think?

L'Oreal-Mascara.jpg
Finding a mascara that checks off everything on your laundry-list of lash must-haves isn’t always an easy feat, especially at a price point that doesn’t make you cringe. Sure, Lancome mascaras never disappoint, but they also deliver a whopper of a price tag to your wallet. I like to save the award-winning “look at me” lashes for those extra special nights out, especially from a pen-sized container bordering on $30. With that said, L’Oreal’s new Double Extend Eye Illuminator mascara is fantastic and fun - even for festive outings - for everyday lashes.

My biggest mascara must-have is lengthening, as my lashes are much shorter than I’d want them to be, and this product definitely delivers. It doesn’t clump, and gives enough volume to satisfy that need, as well. I always have a huge problem with smudged, raccoon eyes with non-waterproof varieties, and I did not have that concern with this mascara.

The most notable part of this product is surely the “eye illuminator” part. Available in four shades, the mascara is supposed to bring out your eye color, and my chocolate brown eyes definitely shined a little brighter with the help of the golden specks in the Black Copper hue. Though glittery lashes might be a little much for the office, I loved it for date night or glam dinners out with the gals.

Overall, for around $10, it’s a great everyday drugstore buy with some oomph and pizazz! $10.95, drugstore.com
