Well, another fashion week has come and gone. And, as is always the case, some hair and makeup looks were true standouts! Check out some of our favorites.

Hairstylist Peter Gray for Redken was inspired by Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction when he decided to cut black wigs into sharp, angled bobs. But the real treat came when he sprayed them gold and laid a lace inset into the middle, creating one of the coolest, most unique looks we have yet to see on the runway. “I’ve done so much hairdressing in all the shows that I sort of lost my roots,” Gray told us backstage. “I started at Sassoon, so I thought it would be nice to come back to it.” (And, okay, it doesn’t hurt that we LOVE Peter Gray.)

A mix of influences—Diana Vreeland, the 1930’s and the Duchess of Windsor—contributed to James Kaliardos for M.A.C’s inspiration behind the makeup look here. He went for a more masculine look to contrast the femininity and sophistication of the clothing, bringing in camels and dusty roses and strengthening the brows with a camel hue. “The shape is strong, but the color is soft,” he told us.

If you like Manolos, then you’ll love the custom tips Wanda Ruiz for CND created at this show! There were two versions of Manolo Manicures—Blacktrack with Airdry top coat, or Putty with Blacktrack “smile lines,” as Ruiz called them. We’ll most certainly be trying out these nails come fall.

Fashion week is all the buzz these past few weeks, and will continue to show up in blog and fashion sites all over the web for a while, we’re sure. We’ve gotten peaks into our share of shows, but were taken aback by the gorgeous, ultra-fem braided crowns shown at the Erin Fetherston show. Since the Heidi-inspired look makes us want to skip in a field of sunflowers in a gauzy gown, we knew it was one for our lookbooks!

Soon after our initial Erin Fetherston inspiration and infatuation, we saw photos of Jessica Alba’s double braided headband from the 2011 Orange British Academy Film Awards that reminded us of a look Sienna Miller rocked a few years back. We’re totally loving the milkmaid updo, and think it would even be cute with your hair down.

The look is simple to achieve, but is best accomplished with longer hair. You can either french braid the ‘do into your hair (a la Jessica Alba) or wrap a long braid, starting at your ear, around your head and pin it back. Either way, you really can’t go wrong. To finish off the look, and make it appear effortless, pull a few loose pieces of hair out around your ears, and the nape of your neck. Voila!
Whether you need to pluck that one stray hair or get rid of excessive shine, these are the quick beauty fixes we’re certain will come to your rescue.

Amy-Adams-Golden-Globes.jpg

Is it just us, or did Amy Adams look absolutely stunning at the 68th Annual Golden Globes this past Sunday? We love the wavy tendrils peeking out around her face - they created such a soft, feminine look. “I wanted to create a soft 20s mood, but in a different, modern way,” said hairstylist Laini Reeves of the look. “We started by changing the texture of her hair before we went on to loosely braid and roll the chignon.”

And if you’re looking to recreate the look at home? Good news, because we got a step-by-step of how Reeves styled Amy!

Reeves started by washing Amy’s hair with Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo and followed with Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner. These two products infused Amy’s hair with argan oil, keratins, fatty acids and proteins, and also controlled the hair by keeping it smooth and frizz free.

Next, Reeves applied Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream from roots to ends while Amy’s hair dried to further smooth the texture and add definition and shine. The hair was rough-dried and then air-dried, except at the roots, where Reeves used a blowdryer - this created “a modern, freer look,” Reeves said.

To create curls around the head, Reeves used a 1” curling iron and then blended them in. After creating a side part, Reeves pulled pieces from the front to frame Amy’s faces, pinning them in an “S” shape away from the rest of the hair. She then gathered and pulled back the rest of Amy’s tresses, made a loose doubled braid, rolled it upwards and pinned it at the nape with five thick bobby pins.

The final step? Reeves released the “S”-shaped sections in the front and pinned them behind Amy’s ears “to open her face up and show off her cheekbones,” Reeves said. A quick spray of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray kept everything in place while adding tons of shine.

Fall and winter makeup trends are a bit at extremes lately. Minimalism vs. va-va-voom. To get a simple look with some pizazz, a bright, yet smokey bronze eye is the perfect middle ground for those who can’t choose. Leading ladies such as Diane Kruger and Claire Danes rock the copper lids, and we’re here to show you what you need to be a golden goddess like them. Bonus: you only need two products!

1. Apply your chosen foundation or tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone.

2. With Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze ($38, sephora.com), apply the top four colors to your blush brush, and lightly apply to the cheeks of your apples.

3. Sweep the light highlighter (top) shadow from your lash line to your brow bone to brighten up your eye.

4. Continue by applying the copper hue (third color) onto your entire lid, and slightly below your lower lash line.

5. Blend the darkest brown copper hue (fifth color) into your outer crease to deepen the look slightly.

6. Wet a liner brush, and apply the same brown copper hue to your inner lash line - top and bottom - smudging slightly to create a smokey effect.

7. Finish your eye with two to three quotes of L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes ($7.99, target.com).
