If there’s one thing we’re certain of, it’s that Bryce Dallas Howard has gorgeous hair. The color, the texture, the length … we’re in love. And at the Cannes Film Festival last week, hairstylist Marcus Francis created two totally different but equally beautiful hairstyles for her as she promoted the movie Restless. Check out the two styles and Marcus’s tips for recreating the looks!

“Bryce can look very youthful and yet classic at different times,” Marcus said. “Because her blouse had such pretty lace detail, we opted for a modern and flirty twist to her look.” Marcus started with Bryce’s hair being unwashed for one day, as he said there’s more texture and the style stays secure longer. He sprayed Phyto Volume Actif Spray throughout dry hair and scrunched with his hand as he used a blowdryer. He then teased 4 1/2” sections and smoothed them with a Mason Pearson brush for height at the crown before creating loose French braids from the temples and finishing them in pigtails. After tying them with elastics, he took each one and wrapped them back and forth before securing with large hair pins. The finishing touch was a few face-framing strands that Marcus curled with a 1/2” curling iron. “Perfect for that do-it-yourself look!” he said of the finished updo.

“With the intricate detail of Bryce’s dress, and how she still wanted a youthful feel to the hair, I took an organic approach to the style,” Marcus said of the wavy tresses Bryce wore to another premiere of Restless at the festival. “I wanted to really show off Bryce’s thick and gorgeous red hair by her wearing it down, like she was right out of a Shakespeare story!”

As with the braided updo above, Marcus began by spraying Phyto Volume Actif Spray on the roots, rough drying her hair with his hands. He then applied Phyto Pro Intense Volume Mousse to sections and blew them dry with a round brush before spritzing Fekkai Tousled Wave Spray throughout the hair six times “for added texture to last,” he said. Marcus then used a 1” curling iron and wrapped strands from roots to ends in a figure eight shape, using both the rod and the clamp, which created irregular-shaped “S waves” instead of curls. He finished by spraying L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray lightly throughout the hair and then shaking out large sections.
Fekkai-Silky-Straight-Ironless.jpgSilky, smooth, straight hair without a touch of frizz? It sounds impossible, we know. But if you introduce the amazingness that is Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Shampoo and Conditioner into your hair regimen, we guarantee you’ll see the light.

Fekkai’s Anti-Frizz Straightening Complex works to smooth each and every strand and, as obvious from the name, eliminate frizz. We’ve tested this shampoo and conditioner in every conceivable weather pattern—hot and humid, cold and rainy, hot and rainy, cold and humid (need we go on?)—and we’re here to tell you it’s impossible to make your hair frizzy with these products by your side!

Not to mention we absolutely love the scent. It’s fresh, clean and sophisticated, but doesn’t follow us around all day with a cloying feeling. The shampoo and conditioner themselves are light and airy as well, so they don’t weigh hair down even though they’re keeping frizz at bay.

At the end of the day, we couldn’t be happier to have this duo in our life. Why have a frizzy mop if you don’t have to?

Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Shampoo and Conditioner retail for $24 each at fekkai.com.

A few weeks ago, I ran out of conditioner so I used a trick I came up for when you’re already in the shower and realize the conditioner bottle is empty: fill the bottle 1/3 full with water, close the cap and shake. You end up with a milky rinse with just enough conditioner in it to get the job done. Later in the week, having just started this column and needing to pick up a bottle of grocery store conditioner to last me until my next salon visit, I decided to try something new.

Enter Renpure Organics ‘i love my hair!’ Body and Shine Conditioner with green tea, chamomile and sunflower oil. Yes, I bought just the conditioner. And yes, I kind of liked it for the following reasons:

1. It has 100% organic ingredients
2. It was on sale because it was a “new item!”
3. It didn’t change my hair. Didn’t make it better, didn’t make it worse. I’m okay with this.

Shu-Uemura-Art-of-Hair-Essence-Absolue-Nourishing-Protective-Oil.jpgWe’ll tell you all the reasons why we love Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil.

1) It smells amazing — the scent of camellia petals is rich, heady and utterly intoxicating.

2) Only one pump is needed to completely protect hair from roots to ends.

3) While most oils make our hair look disgustingly greasy, this one does nothing of the kind.

4) After this one pump, hair is left looking and feeling super soft and silky.

5) The oil helps to protect hair from harmful UV rays and is even safe for use on color-treated hair.

These reasons are all pretty good, wouldn’t you say?

In short, one pump of this oil into your hands and spread through damp hair from roots to ends — or four pumps on dry hair immediately before shampooing — and you’ll be amazed at the difference in softness, silkiness and manageability. Plus, who doesn’t want her hair to smell like flowers?

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil retails for $65 at shuuemuraartofhair-usa.com.
Ojon-Color-Sustain-Collection.jpgYou know how hairstylists always tell you to use color-safe shampoo and conditioner when you color your hair? Well, we may be guilty of not always following the rules. But now that we’ve discovered Ojon Color Sustain Color Revealing Shampoo and Conditioner, all bets are off.

This duo really works to keep color safe for up to 40 shampoos — yes, 40! — thanks to the brand’s Color Sustain Technology. In addition, each is formulated with Tahitian monoi, sunflower seed oil and rosemary leaf extract to create a smooth, light-reflective surface upon the hair.

The shampoo contains golden elixir and lathers up pretty well (though we did need two shampoos to create a really rich, sudsy lather). It removes buildup and dulling residue so hair appears shinier, healthier and more luminous.

The conditioner, on the other hand, is scented with neroli, petit grain and violet leaf — and we’re here to tell you it smells amazing! Fresh, lush and beautiful.

We love how much richer our color looks after just a few washes with this duo. We also love that our blowout lasts for 4 days and looks just as shiny and healthy on day 4 as it does on day 1. What more could you ask for?

Ojon Color Sustain Color Revealing Shampoo and Conditioner retail for $22 and $23, respectively. They’re available at sephora.com.
