holiday-nails.jpg
If there’s one beauty product we think of instantly when the holidays spring up, it’s nail polish. What color will we paint our nails? Red? Silver? Gold? Blue? Oh the options! Being festive from our heads down to our toenails - literally - is very important to us, and we’re guessing, to any beauty junkie.

In honor of decked out holiday nails, we rounded up six of some of our favorite lacquer hues in shimmery merlots, pearlescent blues and gleaming silvers and golds for your polishing delights!

1. Dior Vernis in Gold Revolution 226, $21, sephora.com
2. Butter London 3 Free Nail Lacquer in The Full Monty, $14, ulta.com
3. Essie Nail Polish in Loophole, $8, ulta.com
4. Orly Nail Laquer Mni in Witches Blue, $3.50, ulta.com
5. Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Scarab, $14, sephora.com
6. OPI for Sephora Merry Me! Nail Colour, $9, sephora.com

Matthew-Williamson-Fall-2010-RTW-Ballerina-Bun.JPGOur dreams of wearing tutus and pointe shoes may be behind us. But one trend we’re totally jonesing over? The ballerina bun. This chic, elegant style is actually unbelievably easy to create — and, thankfully, it was seen on so many runways (like Matthew Williamson, above), that it’s most definitely become a trend. Starlets like Natalie Portman, Kristen Bell and Nicole Richie have sported their takes on the look in the past few months — and now we’re here to show you how it’s done!

STEP 1:
Spritz hair with water from a spray bottle. Be sure not to make it soaking wet — just dampen enough to really get it to lay flat.

STEP 2:
Brush all hair back tightly and secure with an elastic where you’d like the bun to rest. We prefer it slightly below the crown.

STEP 3:
Secure hair with an elastic, like the Goody Ouchless No Metal Gentle Ponytail Holders ($2.99 for 12 at walgreens.com).

STEP 4:
Twist your ponytail into a tight rope and then wind around the base.

STEP 5:
Secure the wound section with either another ponytail holder or with bobby pins.

STEP 6:
Finish with a generous amount of hairspray to secure the bun in place. Cult favorite L’Oreal Elnett Extra StrongHold UV Hair Spray ($12.49 at target.com) provides the ultimate touchable hold.

Dolce-&-Gabbana-Berry-Lips-Fall-2010-Runway.jpg

It may not be the most original beauty trend for fall, but berry lips certainly ruled the runways this season. We’re totally loving the take on the trend at Dolce & Gabbana (left), where makeup artist Pat McGrath created a strong, almost matte texture that reminds us of crushed cranberries. Below, some of the lip products you can use to get the look.

Bronze-eyeshadow.jpg
Fall and winter makeup trends are a bit at extremes lately. Minimalism vs. va-va-voom. To get a simple look with some pizazz, a bright, yet smokey bronze eye is the perfect middle ground for those who can’t choose. Leading ladies such as Diane Kruger and Claire Danes rock the copper lids, and we’re here to show you what you need to be a golden goddess like them. Bonus: you only need two products!

1. Apply your chosen foundation or tinted moisturizer to even out your skin tone.

2. With Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick in Bronze ($38, sephora.com), apply the top four colors to your blush brush, and lightly apply to the cheeks of your apples.

3. Sweep the light highlighter (top) shadow from your lash line to your brow bone to brighten up your eye.

4. Continue by applying the copper hue (third color) onto your entire lid, and slightly below your lower lash line.

5. Blend the darkest brown copper hue (fifth color) into your outer crease to deepen the look slightly.

6. Wet a liner brush, and apply the same brown copper hue to your inner lash line - top and bottom - smudging slightly to create a smokey effect.

7. Finish your eye with two to three quotes of L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes ($7.99, target.com).

Marc-Jacobs-Fall-2010-Grey-Nails.jpg
The fall runways saw a departure from the bold greens, blues and purples of seasons past. All of a sudden, muted sophistication ruled the runway with varying shades of grey nail polish. Designers from Oscar de la Renta to Marc Jacobs (the latter, left) trotted out the shade on their runways.

Below, some of our favorite takes on the trend.
