We asked our friend and celebrity makeup artist, Melissa Walsh, to put together a fabulous and time-friendly routine to help you put together a look on Valentine’s Day that would be sure to make you feel and look your best. Whether you plan a romantic night out with the one you love, or a night out with the girls, don’t hesitate to try these tips (along with product suggestions), and have a great Love Day!

 

Melissa says:

 

“Start with a light serum that smooths the skin and sinks in immediately without leaving an oily residue - Janson Beckett Vitamin C&C Facial Serum ($44.50, spalook.com) is perfect for this.”

 

 

 

 

 

“Then, dust a powder foundation all over, being careful to blend well - Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder ($59, beauty.com) gives a really natural glow with great coverage.”

“As you don’t have much time, use one shade of eyeshadow all over the lid and into the crease; think soft sheeny, muted shades like taupe, heather and moss, and take it under the lower lashline too. Line the top lashes with a soft matte pencil and soften the edges with a cotton bud. A few coats of thickening mascara (try Lash Venom by DuWop, $24, sephora.com) finish the eyes.”

 

 

“For your lips use a stain or a cream tint like the ones by Jouer ($20, jouercosmetics.com ), which can also be used as a blush - Amaryllis is especially pretty - and smooth into the lips for a barely there flush.”

 

 

**Melissa’s tips if you only have 5 minutes:

“Spray your face with a refreshing mist like Caudalie Beauty Elixir (from $15, sephora.com), which I always use to smooth my skin and freshen my makeup after a long day. Let it dry for a few seconds and then, using a cream tint in a versatile shade like a soft gold or bronze, smooth onto eyelids, cheeks and lips. Lots of mascara for definition and a light colored eyeliner in the lower lashline will open up your eyes. You should be finished in less than 5 minutes but still will sweep your man off of his feet!”

With Valentine’s Day only a couple of weeks away, we have found that the best gifts for this romantic holiday are those that make us not only feel great, but look it, too. **Beauty Chef Recipe: Make your own Chocolate Facial Mask at home. This mask is actually an excellent moisturizer, leaving your skin baby soft.

1/3 cup cocoa powder

3 tbsp. heavy cream

2 tsp. cottage cheese

¼ cup honey

3 tsp. oatmeal

Mix all ingredients together (a bullet blender works great) and smooth onto face. Relax for 10 minutes, then wash off with warm water.

The 2009 SAG Awards are one of our favorite award shows simply because it’s a bit more relaxed and actors are given the opportunity to award their fellow actors. Of course, as always, we love to “ooh” and “ahh” at the gorgeous makeup and hair. This year we saw everything from beautiful updos to long, loose waves; curled tresses and flowy straight manes. We saw red lips and eyes decked out in icy shadows (eyeshadows, that is), and we loved every minute of it. Check out our favorites.

 

 

 Anne Hathaway enchanted us with a lush lash look that complimented her glossy berry stained lip. We loved her loosley tousled hair that not only screams chic, but carefree at the same time.

 

 

January Jones caught our attention, as always, with a fresh look that was both romantic and bold. With makeup to compliment her natural beauty, hairstylist Mark Townsend continued that theme by creating soft yet modern waves on the Mad Men star. 

 

 

Julia Ormond glowed with radiant skin and shiny hair. We love how her full brows and big lashes made her green eyes really pop, while a soft glossy pink lip and glowing cheeks kept her look fresh.   

 

 

Taraji P. Henson wowed us again with shimmery, defined eyes and a glossy lip. And while her hair may be cut in a classic bob, we love the high shine added to keep the glamour quotient at maximum levels. 

  

Kate Winslet is a red carpet goddess this award season, and here is another example of why. A great side-swept updo kept her looking sophisticated while shimmery eye makeup and a neutral palette of soft pinks on her cheeks and lips added just the right amount of glamour.    

 

  

Jennifer Morrison never disappoints us when it comes to the red carpet. The House star’s look had an ethereal quality with loose waves and luminous makeup. Bronze and pink tones kept the look light and airy and really complimeted her white gown.  

 

 

Viola Davis was the picture of glamour at the evening’s festivities. With soft curls framing her face, and subtle yet flattering makeup complimenting her skin, we were in awe of her fabulous glow.    

 

The gorgeous Freida Pinto captivated our attention with her classic updo and flawless skin. We love the use of blue and violet toned eyeshadows to help frame her black-rimmed eyes while a rasberry hue gave her lips their glossy finish.
