There is nothing new and innovative about chignons, but after a long summer of beachy waves, nothing is more refreshing then swept up locks to showcase your gorgeous face. Plus, with higher fall and winter necklines creeping out of our closets, a high, top bun is the perfect hairstyle to keep from looking overdone and busy.

Perfect for day to night transitions, the office and for fast-approaching holiday parties, look to stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Bosworth, Minka Kelly and January Jones for chignon inspiration.

Five steps for a sleek and elegant high-rise chignon:

1. Brush back your hair as high as your crown (ideally, your chignon will land directly opposite of your chin).

2. Secure your pony loosely with a thing hair tie, and tease the base of the pony tail.

3. Carefully wrap your hair from the base to the tip in a circular motion, securing with bobby pins. Find bobby pins that are the closest to your hair color for a more seamless look.

4. You may have loose hairs and ends left over if you have layered hair, sweep them into place and secure with some more bobby pins.

5. Lightly spritz hairspray from your lower hairline at the base of your scalp to your bun, avoiding too much product up front to keep from looking too slicked back.
Nothing screams confident, sexy and bold better than a woman sporting red lipstick. Thankfully, vampy pouts are coming back with a vengeance for fall. Seen on gorgeous celebs like Jessica Alba, Jennie Garth and Kim Kardashian, the key to looking chic and elegant with bold crimson lips is to keep the rest of your face clean and simple. Mascara and light liner is all you need to complete your confident look.

If the idea of going out with scarlet lips leaves you running for the nude-mouthed hills, don’t fear. Follow our five quick tips to maximize your crimson pout.

1. Red lipstick has a knack for creeping out of the lines. Keep it in place by priming the outer edges of your mouth with concealer.

2. If the shade of red you purchased looked great in the store, but didn’t quite live up to your expectations at home, don’t run out to return it. Add a gold-toned gloss to tone it down, or add a light pink gloss to cool down the hue.

3. Red lips may be sexy, but red teeth certainly are not. Always finish off an application by popping your index finger in your mouth, lightly pressing down your lips, and slowly pulling it out.

4. Such a bold color must be applied precisely, so take special care when putting on your lipstick. A small lip brush works well for this.

5. We’ve said it once, but we’ll say it again. Keep the rest of your face simple to put your best, sexy face forward.
2.JPGOn Wednesday we had the pleasure of attending a press conference courtesy of Olay, revealing the first celebrity beauty ambassador for the brand. In the week leading up to the event, Olay gave clues on their facebook, prompting fans of the beauty giant to wager their guesses.

After arriving at the rooftop observation deck and being treated to yummy goodies, we were ushered to our seats for the announcement. After two short video teasers and a quick speech from Procter & Gamble VP Joe Acuri, the ambassador was named and brought out to speak to us, and that face was… Carrie Underwood!

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 “We are thrilled that someone as inspirational as Carrie has joined Olay,” said Arcuri. “Carrie epitomizes Olay’s mission to challenge possibilities and encourage a new generation of women to learn about skin care and make a noticeable impact on their skin’s appearance.”

“With her genuine beauty and girl-next-door likeability, Carrie is a natural fit and wonderful addition to the Olay family,” said Chris Heiert, Marketing Director, Olay. “Through all her success, Carrie remains grounded and connects with women everywhere using her powerful voice. She personifies the iconic image of the brand while representing the faces of the future.”

As the new ambassador for Olay, the 27-year-old, GRAMMY award-winning artist amplifies a positive message for a new generation of women to challenge their own skin’s possibilities with the latest advances in skin care from Olay as part of the brand’s “Challenge What’s Possible” campaign. In her new role with Olay, Carrie will also represent a line of skin care products for the brand.

“I am so excited to be associated with a beauty brand that has been trusted by women for more than 50 years,” Carrie said. “As a little girl I remember my mom always using the original Olay Beauty Fluid and encouraging my sisters and I to take care of our skin. I love that Olay has managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages who want affordable skin care products that do what they promise. My music career has been a dream come true and proven to me that the seemingly impossible can be achieved. Olay’s inspiring campaign echoes my beliefs.”

Olay products are available at Target or Olay.com. The campaign is scheduled to debut later this year.

Glee-3.jpg
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been seeing simple, minimalist faces popping up all over fall/winter runways. Nude lips and light metallic eyes have been one of the biggest trends for fall 2010. Echoing the fashions of the coming season, a clean and effortless face is a refreshing change to the dark lip and eye shades we are used to seeing when the weather cools off and the sweaters and scarves come out.

Our favorite starlet look featuring simple, natural makeup is Dianna Agron (Quinn Fabray on Glee) at the Glee Season 2 premier earlier this week. Her simple, wavy pulled back hair, paired with her toned down makeup color palette really accentuated her natural beauty, which is what this no-frills trend is all about.

Echoing Dianna’s glowing fresh face were Glee Season 2 co-stars Naya Rivera, Jenna Ushkowitz, Heather Morris and Charice Pempengco. Their light, natural colored lips with slightly blushed-tone cheeks were the perfect companions to highlighted eyes and curled lashes with a few coats of mascara.

If you are anything like us, taking a break from our jewel-toned eyeshadows and eyeliners and deep, rich lipsticks is very much welcomed. We can’t wait to rock our clean slate this fall and winter, as is the case for this year, less is certainly going to be more!

It’s Friday and we STILL aren’t over the gorgeous looks from Sunday’s Emmys!

Here are a few looks that we can’t get out of our heads:

Keri Russell_hair.jpgKeri Russel kept it flirty with icy lavender eyeshadow, rosy cheeks, and pinkish nude lips…complemented by her wavy side updo. Perfect for the warm weather on Emmy day…or a summer date night!

SofiaVergara_325.jpgSofia Vergera, who is always sultry, did not disappoint with cascading waves, smoky eyes, and shades of peach to make her tan pop. Muy Caliente!

LeaMichele-325.jpgLea Michele intensified her 70’s inspired flowing hair by adding winged liner and nude lips reminiscent of the time period, proving you can look natural and glam at the same time. (Is it just us or does she remind you of Jen Garner here?)

ClaireDanes_325.jpgClaire Danes made her blue eyes pop by rimming them with plum shadow and adding lots of lash. Rosy shades on cheeks and lips complimented her blonde hair and tawny skin.

January Jones kept her face fresh with just a hint of icy white on the eyes to make them pop, but added extensions to the front of her hair for a beachy, a-line bob.
