essie-matte-about-you.jpgI’m a sucker for great nail colors, but sometimes that perfect shade needs a little tweak. I’m notorious for layering colors to create my own and then I found Essie’s Matte About You. This brilliant top coat takes any nail color you’ve got and transforms it to a smooth matte finish without thinning color. I have a shiny metallic silver nail polish (Essie’s Steel-ing the Scene) that I love to put this over to remove the shine and make a wonderful flat grey.

You can find Essie’s Matte About You Topcoat at Walgreens.com for $8.

Whether you woke up late today or just want to extend your sleek blow dry an extra day, dry shampoo is your ticket to making hair look fresh and clean in seconds. Dry shampoo has long been a must-have in our beauty arsenal, so we were excited to test out the new TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.

tresemme-dry-shampoo.jpgWhat first struck me about the shampoo is that it’s available in 4 different formulas based on your specific hair type — something completely unique to the dry shampoo market. The four formulas are:

Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen hair and leaves it full of healthy body.

Volumizing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with mineral clay and citrus, removes oil while injecting hair with salon-gorgeous volume.

Smoothing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with Vitamin H & Silk Proteins, refreshes your straight style by removing excess oil, impurities and odor to ensure your smooth look lasts.

Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: The formula, with Witch Hazel, Citrus, and Aloe Vera, refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities and odor while moisturizing hair.

Included with the shampoo were some helpful tips on how to get the best results from Dry Shampoos:

  • Do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results.
  • Do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots
  • Do spray in short bursts, holding 8-12 inches from head
  • Don’t spray it like hair spray (all over and continuously)
  • Do leave in for 1-2 minutes.
  • Do use fingertips or a brush to distribute product evenly

Following the instructions, I sprayed at the roots, targeting areas that seemed especially oily. Like most other dry shampoos I’ve used, the spray coated my hair with a whitish powder. I instantly noticed the clean, fresh scent which comes from citrus extracts infused into the product. After 2 minutes, I used my fingers to distribute the shampoo until the whitish powder was no longer visible.

True to TRESemmé’s promise, my hair looked instantly refreshed (and smelled great!) without water. I was pleased to see that my brunette hair didn’t have the tell-tale ashy look that a lot of other dry shampoos can leave. In addition to looking clean and non-greasy, my hair felt a bit fuller and thicker than it does when it’s freshly washed. 12 hours later, my hair still looks and smells clean.

I don’t worry about fine lines and wrinkles — and it’s not because I’m too young for such things! For one thing worrying causes fine lines and wrinkles so that would be counterproductive, and for another I know Say Yes To Blueberries has me covered. Their Brightening Facial Towelettes are my go to when I feel my skin needs a pick-me-up, quick cleanse, or just a refresher. I keep a pack at my desk, one in my gym bag and one at home to ensure I’m never without my secret weapon.

Swipe the soft cloth across your face and let the pre-moistened towelette do it’s job, they do a great job at removing makeup or sweat and grime and leave skin feeling refreshed and moisturized.

Say Yes to Blueberries Brightening Facial Towelettes are available for $7.99 at ulta.com.

I’m a designer fanatic, so I was more than elated when I found the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating lipstick. Don’t let the word lipstick fool you, this baby packs sheer shine and a light, glossy feel in a standard lipstick formula that goes on perfectly every time. It looks great worn on its own or over other colors for a glossy layer.

Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating lipstick retails for $32 at cusp.com.
Rosebud-Perfume-Co-Three-Lavish-Layers-Of-Lip-Balm.jpgStrawberry! Rosebud! Minted Rose! If you’re looking for a set that contains all three of these delicious flavors, then look no further than the Rosebud Perfume Co. Three Lavish Layers of Lip Balm collection.

All three of the cult favorite balms come packaged in an adorable vintage-inspired vanity tin that, once the balms have been used up, can be converted into a storage tin! (We recommend putting something like cotton balls or Q-tips in it and displaying it on your vanity or bathroom windowsill.)

In any case, these balms are among our very favorites for their highly nourishing and moisturizing properties. Shea butter helps heal everything from eczema and rashes to burns and chapped skin. Vitamins A and E moisturize. They even contain natural UV protection! But our favorite part is the Aromol Trade Secret Blend, a complex of seven different essential oils from the Perfume House of Paris France that promote healing and lend antibacterial benefits.

While these balms are mainly used on the lips, you can really use them anywhere that’s a little rough and dry, from cracked elbows to peeling cuticles!

Oh, yeah, we almost forgot … they smell fantastic, too.

Rosebud Perfume Co. Three Lavish Layers of Lip Balm retails for $16 at sephora.com.
