Every girl loves a good manicure and if you have the time and a few extra dollars to spend on a spa treatment, it’s even better. But if we are being honest, a lot of us skip that mani every few weeks whether it’s because we’re too busy, a little tight on cash, or just lazy we tend to find ourselves painting our nails by ourselves before a night out. Although this is a great idea one thing tends to be forgotten with an at-home mani: our cuticles. Whether you bite, pull or even rip them, it is no secret that our cuticles very easily become raw, dry and pretty painful. So I discovered three products you could choose from to add to your at-home manicure kit to tend to those diminishing cuticles.

1) SpaRitual-Cuti-Treat Cuticle Gel - This nourishing treatment helps cracked weak nails group by repairing damaged and dry cuticles at the root. The gel is made of hydrolyzed wheat protein that conditions, green tea and ginkgo biloba that hydrates the skin as well as stimulated circulation, and the final ingredient is pineapple, which softens overgrown cuticles and seals in natural antioxidants.

2) Julep Nail 911 Repair System - This kits comes with two separate products, one to help your damaged nails and the other to help those dry cuticles. The nail therapy is packed with vitamins B, C, and E in order to replenish the damage and the cuticle serum consists of peptides that enhances the natural growth process, green tea leaf extracts that condition, and sugar cane enzymes to dissolve dry and dull surface cells.

3) Perfect Formula Strong Nail System contains both keratin (yes the same thing that works magic on our hair) and jojoba oil to help condition the cuticles and help maintain the moisture balance in the nail. This combination of ingredients in both products help promote strength and flexibility to the cuticle and nail to result in stronger and longer nails.

Luckily, I have a little bit of time before I have to worry about greys popping in and covering up roots, but I do know plenty of women who are currently having that problem, so I thought I’d do a little bit of research and find the best products out there to help cover up those annoying grey hairs. My biggest pet peeve when coloring hair is the dry time. Waiting 30 to 40 minutes with a cap on your head and that smell lingering is something unbearable, so on top of finding the best of the best in root cover-ups it was also a goal of mine to find products that would eliminate, or at least minimize, these issues. I uncovered three products that are a little pricey, but are definitely worth having on hand in between salon visits!

The Spray

Women use hairspray pretty much every day so it was only a matter of time before hair color was put into an aerosol can. The Rita Hazan Root Concealer comes in five different colors (blonde, dark blonde. light brown, dark brown/black, and red) and will cover your roots in just one quick spray. Although the light stream helps control where the dye goes, it is very easy to press a little too hard and it is even easier to get a little too much in one spot, so my advice is to try it out a little by spraying some on a napkin to make sure you get the pressure of your finger down before trying to put in on your roots. The best thing about the spray is it won’t get all over your hands or anywhere else—like eyeglasses.

The Marker

When I first came across this one I wasn’t sure it was going to be any good because my experience has taught me that any product that comes in pen or marker form, like the nail art pens, don’t work too well. But it seemed like a good product to at least investigate, and when I did, I really found nothing bad about it. The ColorMark Touchback looks exactly like a flat point permanent marker and it’s used pretty much the same way: you simply color over your roots. Be sure to pull your hair away from your scalp otherwise you will end up with spots on your head (if this happens it’s pretty easy to smudge away with a finger). It dries in minutes and will not flake off when you brush your hair or sweat like some other dye pens.

The Shadow

When I saw this next product I didn’t get how this could work and how they were able to put such a price tag on it, but then I dug a little deeper. The Color Wow Root Cover Up looks like an eye shadow at first glance so the natural reaction is to think, ‘My eye shadow doesn’t always stay on so how will this?’ But to be 100 percent honest, I didn’t read one review that was negative. Although it is not the most cost-efficient option for root touch-ups, it definitely seems to be worth a try at least once. The powder will adhere to your hair, not your skin, so you won’t have to worry about it looking dry or being obvious, it becomes completely camouflaged. The best part about this product is there is no dry time like the other two and no smell.

Finding the best eye makeup remover formula can be a tricky task — I’ve had some that were too greasy, some that caused stinging and some that gave me reactions around my eyes. Pixi Waterproof Makeup Remover is one of the best I’ve tried in a long time. It removes my mascara with just a couple swipes and doesn’t cause any sort of reaction. In fact the other day I got some in my eye by accident and nothing happened at all. I also like that it doesn’t leave any residue behind so my eyes feel clean and refreshed instantly.

You can buy Pixi Waterproof Makeup Remover for $14 at your local Target stores and online at

No one likes to be pale during any season let alone the summertime when everyone seems to be a perfect bronze color, but I am always so nervous when using a “a tan in a can” because, from experience, you either come out striped or orange — neither of which are attractive. Fortunately, I discovered Bliss- A Tan for All Seasons ($36), a colorless self tanner. Yeah, you read that correctly: this bronzing spray has no color, which means no streaks, no orange tone to your skin, and most importantly, no orange stained hands! On top of the color being a negative with typical self-tanners, the smell is usually unbearable, but Bliss took care of that too. The product has a citrus smell that is just light enough that will make your skin feel awake and refreshed. Also, the antioxidant formula helps product your skin from environmental damages, like pollution and dirt. Most importantly, your tan comes on gradually. Unlike other self-tanners that give you color right away, this one will bring it on gradually so it appears more natural.

I was blessed with a stepmother who is a hair dresser, so fighting split ends and damaged hair has never really been a problem for me. Since I know not everyone has the same advantage, I wanted to share three of the best products to fight the damage that heat, pollution and daily blow-drying can cause your hair. Truthfully, the only way to fix split ends once they occur is to cut them off, but there are ways to prevent the damage from occurring and here are the products that do that!

Hair Oil
As annoying as your oily hair can be, it is what keeps your hair looking fresh and rejuvenated. Unfortunately, due to environmental stress, blow-dryers and flat irons, these oils are extracted from you hair so reapplying them is essential. The Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque combines tea tree and chamomile oils to add those essential oils right back into your hair, preventing the ends from splitting.

Erasing Balm
Let’s be honest, most women color their hair or blow dry it every day, which means damage is expected, so what can we do to reverse this once it’s already happened? The L’Oreal Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm is the answer. This reconstructing balm once applied instantly repairs the five signs of damage, split ends, weak, rough, dull and dehydrated, leaving the hair shiny and healthy. It is specifically designed to treat hair that has been over-processed and chemically treated.

Correction Conditioner
Conditioning your hair properly is probably the most important step in fighting split ends and damage. Nexxus Pro Mend Split End Treatment Daily Shampoo is proven to bind 86% of split ends in just three washes. In order to keep your hair looking healthy, it is essential to use this product every day, on top of your other shampoo and conditioner. The most important step in applying this product is to make sure you mainly apply it to the ends of your hair and leave on for three minutes, that way it has time to bind the existing damage.
