September 2011 Archives

Travel-Beauty-Image.jpgWe’ve been traveling quite a bit lately—both for work and for play—and we must say, we’ve developed quite an arsenal of travel-friendly beauty products! We absolutely hate checking a suitcase, so we’ve amassed a huge amount of products in handy-dandy 3.4oz or less sizes (and have gotten smart about products that don’t come in gel or cream form, too). Check out some of our very favorite travel beauty products here!

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo
We’ve been using this shampoo for years. Formulated with olive oil, it keeps hair looking shiny and lustrous for days on end! And we’re super thrilled that it now comes in a travel-friendly bottle.

Ole Henriksen Truth To Go Wipes
Nothing is more annoying than bringing cleanser in a plastic bag (and trying to find a cleanser that FITS in that plastic bag). We love these wipes, with their refreshing orange scent and ability to remove even the most stubborn mascara.

Blow Faux Dry Dry Shampoo
On days when you just can’t bring yourself to wash your hair, this is THE dry shampoo you should turn to. It removes all oil and grease and makes your locks look absolutely amazing in no time flat!

Supersmile Professional Whitening Toothpaste Set
Can’t decide which toothpaste to use—but you want a more luxurious offering than Crest or Colgate? Well, this kit of five toothpastes (with Original Mint, Icy Mint, Mandarin Mint, Cinnamon and Green Apple) is sure to fit every fancy.

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of TRESemmé. All opinions are 100% mine.

Whether you woke up late today or just want to extend your sleek blow dry an extra day, dry shampoo is your ticket to making hair look fresh and clean in seconds. Dry shampoo has long been a must-have in our beauty arsenal, so we were excited to test out the new TRESemmé Fresh Start Dry Shampoo.

tresemme-dry-shampoo.jpgWhat first struck me about the shampoo is that it’s available in 4 different formulas based on your specific hair type — something completely unique to the dry shampoo market. The four formulas are:

Strengthening Dry Shampoo: The formula, with B12 vitamins and keratin, helps strengthen hair and leaves it full of healthy body.

Volumizing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with mineral clay and citrus, removes oil while injecting hair with salon-gorgeous volume.

Smoothing Dry Shampoo: The formula, with Vitamin H & Silk Proteins, refreshes your straight style by removing excess oil, impurities and odor to ensure your smooth look lasts.

Moisturizing Waterless Foam Shampoo: The formula, with Witch Hazel, Citrus, and Aloe Vera, refreshes your hair by removing excess oil, impurities and odor while moisturizing hair.

Included with the shampoo were some helpful tips on how to get the best results from Dry Shampoos:

  • Do shake vigorously before use and in between spray bursts for best results.
  • Do lift sections of dry hair and spray lightly at roots
  • Do spray in short bursts, holding 8-12 inches from head
  • Don’t spray it like hair spray (all over and continuously)
  • Do leave in for 1-2 minutes.
  • Do use fingertips or a brush to distribute product evenly

Following the instructions, I sprayed at the roots, targeting areas that seemed especially oily. Like most other dry shampoos I’ve used, the spray coated my hair with a whitish powder. I instantly noticed the clean, fresh scent which comes from citrus extracts infused into the product. After 2 minutes, I used my fingers to distribute the shampoo until the whitish powder was no longer visible.

True to TRESemmé’s promise, my hair looked instantly refreshed (and smelled great!) without water. I was pleased to see that my brunette hair didn’t have the tell-tale ashy look that a lot of other dry shampoos can leave. In addition to looking clean and non-greasy, my hair felt a bit fuller and thicker than it does when it’s freshly washed. 12 hours later, my hair still looks and smells clean.

ashlee-simpson-hair-09182011-thumbnail.jpgI adore how Ashlee Simpson has transformed from a rebellious teenager to mature, polished young woman. Having been a fan of hers early on, think ‘Autobiography’ days, I was getting used to her edgier looks and experiments with hair color. While I think the darker colors made her eyes pop I was not a fan of how long she kept her locks, they seemed to get scragglier and scragglier each year. I was pleasantly shocked and in sheer admiration when she popped up recently with a perfectly platinum pixie cut that screamed of her new, more mature attitude!
Philosophy-Green.jpgWant to green your beauty routine? Well, Philosophy Green Fresh Pear Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath sure is, well, green!

Shimmery green, to be exact. We love the sense of fun this pale green 3-in-1 brings to our daily shower routine—and the subtle sparkle it leaves behind on our skin throughout the day.

But what we really love? The scent, of course! Every Philosophy 3-in-1 has the uncanny ability of smelling exactly like its real-life counterpart, and Green is no different. It seriously smells just like fresh pears! (And makes us long for the dog days of summer again.)

And here’s the best part. 100 percent of Philosophy’s net proceeds from the sale of Green go directly to the Rainforest Foundation—so your beauty routine really is green in the truest sense of the word.

Philosophy Green Fresh Pear Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath retails for $20 at philosophy.com.
One look at the beautiful faces on the 2011 Emmy Awards red carpet and you could make out four very strong trends.

Barely There, Nude Faces

Heidi Klum, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rachael Harris showed the new class of young ladies on the red carpet how it’s done with barely there, light makeup that allowed their natural beauty to shine through.

Darkly Lined Eyes With Bold Lips

While the ladies above wanted neutral, Angela Kinsey, Claire Danes and Jayma Mays threw their style into overdrive. With dark lined upper lids and bright bold lip colors, this trio was ready to rock the red carpet.

Ghostly Pale, Shimmery Cheeks

This look had me a little perplexed! It’s only September, not the middle of winter, but Dianna Agron, Julianna Marguiles and Evan Rachel Wood looked like they hadn’t seen the sun for months. I have to say the pale cheeks are better than orangey, overly-bronzed ones.

Shiny, Glossy Lips

It wasn’t blondes having all the fun on the red carpet, Sofia Vergara, Minka Kelly and Colbie Smulders gave brunettes a good name with their shiny locks and equally shiny, glossy lips.

What did you think of the beauty trends on the red carpet? Did you have a favorite, or least favorite?
