sally-hansen-salon-manicure-base-coat.jpg
I’m always sharing pics of my nail color combinations, so it’s obvious that I like having them painted. What isn’t as obvious is the fact that I always paint them myself. I just can’t bring myself to part with the money to have a manicure and honestly I’m rough on my nails so the color has to be redone every 5 or so days. So to keep my hands looking nice I started doing manicures myself. I learned very early on that a good base coat is key to a good at-home manicure. My favorite is the Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Base Coat. I find it helps smooth out the nail surface and seal my nails nicely for color. I also find that it makes it easier to remove color when I’m done because of the barrier between the nail and color that it creates.

You can get Sally Hansen Salon Manicure Base Coat for $7.99 at ulta.com.
Ashley-Tisdale-Purple-Hair.jpgIt seems another celebrity has dipped her toe—or shall we say her hair?—in the crazy colored hair waters. Ashley Tisdale showed up at the premiere of Step Up Revolution in Los Angeles last week sporting her normal blonde, but with a bold addition—purple streaks!

We’re actually really loving this look on Ashley. It’s cool, it’s modern, and it’s just enough to make a statement without overpowering her or making her look crazy.

Want to get the look yourself? Try these two products!

Manic Panic Electric Amethyst Classic Cream Formula, $14 at urbanoutfitters.com

Or you can chalk your hair! Just make sure to use soft pastels. And, above all, have fun! That’s what this look is all about.

Want to know how to look beautiful and totally on trend this summer? Over the next few weeks, we’ll be bringing you the beauty trends you need to know about and incorporate into your routine, stat—and the products that will give you the looks in a flash.

This week, we’re bringing you bold lips. We’re loving this trend because it’s not really normal for summertime! But bright, bold puckers were seen all over the runways this season, casting aside the notion that deep reds and pinks are just for fall and winter. All shades of red and pink are definitely in the mix, but coral and orange have worked their way in, too. Check out our favorite takes on the various colors.

Coral-Lip-Colors-Summer-2012-Beauty-Trends.jpgCoral
Is there anything more summery than a beautiful, peachy coral lip? Not quite red, not quite pink, not quite orange … this one perfectly offsets bronzed or pale skin and makes our mouths water.

Chanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Calypso
Packed with gold shimmer for a gorgeously glossy glow.
$29.50 at nordstrom.com

Fresh Sugar Coral Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15
Slicks on easily, leaves behind a pretty coral stain and lasts for hours. Not to mention it protects your lips from harmful UV rays!
$22.50 at beauty.com

Korres Mango Butter Lipstick SPF 10 in Coral
Bold and bright, and the mango butter makes your lips feel amazing.
$18 at sephora.com

Maybelline ColorSensational Lip Color in Coral Crush
This lipstick has a pinkish tinge that really sets it apart from the rest of the coral crowd. It dries semi matte, so it’s perfect for a night out on the town.
$7.49 at ulta.com

Orange-Lips-Summer-2012-Beauty-Trends.jpgOrange
Looking for a vibrant color that really makes a statement? Head for traffic-stopping orange.

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Zinfandel
We love the way this feels on our lips, and the precision you get with a pencil form makes it worth salivating over!
$24 at sephora.com

Topshop Lips in Infrared
Although this lipstick is super bright orange, there’s somehow a softness to it that makes it less harsh in everyday light.
$16 at topshop.com

NYX Indie Flick Matte Lipstick
The boldest of the bunch—a fiery orange that makes us want to go salsa dancing.
$5.99 at ulta.com

Red-Lips-Summer-2012-Beauty-Trends.jpgRed
Red definitely shocks us as a summer lip color go-to, but we’re loving the bold change.

M.A.C Ruffian Red Lipstick
This cult favorite was recently brought back into rotation, much to the fans’ (including ours!) glee. It just doesn’t get more classic than this blue-red shade.
$14.50 at maccosmetics.com

Yes to Carrots Color Balm in Soft Plum
If you’re looking for just a hint of color, in addition to supersoft lips, this balm is the one for you.
$5.99 at yestocarrots.com

Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip & Cheek Stain in Flamenco
The deep berry hue is gorgeous, but it’s the fun marker-like application that really got us. But be forewarned, this stains lips instantly—and takes a LOT of makeup remover.
$19 at sephora.com

Pink-Lipstick-Summer-2012-Beauty-Trends.jpgPink
Does it get more girly and feminine than pink? We think not.

Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Lucky
The blue tone makes this lipstick look brightly, shockingly hot pink. And it’s DIOR. Need we say more?
$30 at sephora.com

NARS True Matte Lipstick in Carthage
This lipstick is definitely a matte. We’re obsessed with its stain-like quality and eye-popping hot pink hue.
$25 at barneys.com

CoverGirl Blast Flipstick Blendable Lip Duo in Perky
Two for the price of one? Sign us up, especially with this duo, since the colors look equally gorgeous on their own or layered atop one another. We’re totally loving the frosty pale pink.
$7.99 at drugstore.com

anne-hathaway-07182012.jpg
Anne Hathaway is appearing in the new Les Miserables movie and as part of her preparation for the role she decided she wanted to chop her hair off. I think the look is bold and brazen and actually looks very sweet on Ms. Hathaway. For her it took some getting used to, she explained in a recent interview that she cried hysterically after doing it. The fun part of having hair this short is learning to vary your styles. You can wear it simple and swept a bit to the side like she did here, or work some styling mud or wax through it and give it some texture and oomph. The trick to drastic hair styles is to remember, it’s only hair, it WILL grow back. That said, I really wish I had the nerve to go that short!
Amber-Rose-Head-Scarves.jpgWhen the going gets hot, the stylish reach for head scarves. Amber Rose reached for two different ones in the same day, in fact! She hosted two different events on July 12, and showed up with a different head scarf to each one.

During the day, Amber chose an off-white head scarf that perfectly matched her sundress. We love how the pale color offsets her dark pink lipstick. At night, Amber opted for a different pale dress and pale glossy lips, but went for a black scarf to make it pop. (And she wore the same earrings to both events, which may be considered a celebrity fashion faux pas, but they’re amazing, so we’ll let it slide.)

We’re loving the way Amber tied her scarves into different turban shapes, too.
