Beauty-Tips-Image.jpgLast week, we brought you our 11 best fashion tips ever. And, of course, it got us thinking about our best beauty tips ever, too! Over the years, we’ve given tons of beauty advice and tips to help women look (and feel) their best. Here are 11 of our best beauty tips of all time.

1) Have fun with your nail polish.
If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that nails are the new accessory. Whether you’re choosing a bold color you’ve never worn before, experimenting with nail art or just trying out new and different formulas (like rubber or leather), it’s a relatively inexpensive way to express yourself. Plus, it’s easy to change on a whim!

2) Just have fun in general.
Really, makeup is just such a great way to express yourself. Want to try purple eyeshadow? Go for it. Interested in the Pantone color of the year? Have a ball. Intrigued by the looks seen on the runways during Fashion Week? Try them out! Multiple makeup artists and hairstylists have given us this one sound piece of advice: Beauty is supposed to be fun.

3) Get inspired by celebrity beauty looks.
The onslaught of paparazzi photos and red carpet looks can at times be overwhelming, but it can also lead to new ideas for hairstyles, makeup looks, nail art and more! We’ve been known to take a picture of a celebrity in when we’re getting a haircut—and you can even take one to a makeup counter if you’re looking for something specific!

4) Some of the best beauty products don’t cost a fortune.
The idea that all of the best products out there cost a ton of money? Not true. Some of our favorite cleansers, mascaras and more come straight from the drugstore—and cost under $10! And while we recommend trying different products to figure out which one is right for you, if you’re on a budget, chances are you can still look and feel gorgeous 100 percent of the time.

5) Skincare is everything. EVERYTHING.
Great beauty starts with great skin. Your face is a canvas, and don’t you want it to be as soft, smooth and perfect as possible? Make sure you treat it right, whether that’s getting facials, wearing night cream, choosing an eye cream … you get the picture.

6) Sometimes, mascara is all you need.
If you only have two extra minutes in the morning, apply a coat of mascara. Every makeup brand has at least one, if not several formulas, to choose from—and they do everything from curl to lengthen to volumize. Our favorites range from Maybelline to Dior, and we can’t recommend the idea of coating your lashes strongly enough!

7) Always take off your makeup. Even if you just use cleansing wipes.
We know, we know—sometimes, taking off your makeup at the end of a long day just seems interminable. Well, it’s just so much better for your skin if it can breathe while you sleep—not to mention it cuts down on eye infections and pimples! If you’re strapped for time, or you just can’t face standing in front of the sink, at least reach for a package of cleansing wipes. Your skin will thank you.

8) Traveling with your beauty products doesn’t have to be a nightmare.
We’ve covered this topic fairly extensively (check here and here for some of our favorite travel-ready products). From the aforementioned cleansing wipes (not only great when you’re lazy but great when you don’t want to pack a full-sized cleanser!) to dry shampoo and even nail polish remover, so many brands have products that are just perfect for that quart-sized plastic bag.

9) Sunscreen is NOT overrated.
Another topic that really gets us going is sun protection. (Just a couple of examples: here and here.) You should always, always make sure you’re wearing SPF when you’re outside, regardless of whether you’re hitting the beach or just walking to work. We’ve rounded up tons of fabulous SPF products over the years, from moisturizers and BB creams to facial sunscreens and even lip balms.

10) Some of your favorite beauty products do double duty.
Run in your tights? Check. Stain in your clothing? Double check. You’d be surprised at how many of your beauty products do more than just what you think they do!

11) Get your beauty sleep. Always.
Good skin health starts with a good night of sleep. So before you settle down for those eight hours, make sure you’re doing everything you can to ensure you’ll look and feel your best in the morning!
One of my favorite hair styles on the Golden Globes red carpet this year was Julianne Hough’s edgy take on a twisty updo. With her pretty, ball gown style dress this ‘do was complimentary and classic with just the right amount of youthful playfulness. Julieanne’s hair stylist, Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One Salon, was happy to share just how she created this work of hair art. Warning, it’s a bit more intricate than it looks at first glance.

One of the first things I noticed about the style was how beautifully clean and bright Julianne’s blonde hair looked. This was because Julianne’s Hair was washed and prepped with UNITE’s BLONDA Shampoo and BLONDA Condition. The special formulated shampoo and conditioner brighten the tone of blonde hair. Next UNITE 7SECONDS Condition was used on Julianne’s locks not only to detangle and condition the hair, but additional 7SECONDS Condition was applied to help to make the hair super clean and slippery to ensure that some hair fell out to add to the final edginess of the look.

Post-shamppo, UNITE EXPANDA Volume was applied 1-3 inches from the roots to give maximum lift and volume. Next, hair was dried and brushed using UNITE Pro-System 74mm Round brush. Once hair was dry, UNITE EXPANDA Dust was sprinkled throughout the root area on the top of the head. UNITE EXPANDA Dust is packed with ingredients and starches that help add extra volume and hold to hair. Then to begin styling, Riawna started in the back, using small, horizontal sections on the top of the head, backcombing the hair 1-2 inches from scalp to create instant volume. She then continued forward to the hairline leaving out the final front section. The final backcombed “mohawk” was clipped out of the way.

This look didn’t stop with the prep though. Along the sides, Riawna slightly teased the hair for added texture and volume. Then a soft, natural parting in the hair was made on both sides near the temple area and each side was split into a top and bottom section. After being separated, each section was twisted into the back towards the nape, made into a mini ponytail and pinned. Finally the edgy, mohawk style was finished at the top by twisting the hair within the front 3 inches of the top section over towards the left and pinning it in place. The second section was then alternated to twist toward the right side and pinned in place. The alternating sections continued until the top section was complete creating a “twisted mohawk”. Once hair was set in the general form, Riawna sprinkled more UNITE EXPANDA Dust on areas that still required more texture, then pulled the hair slightly with fingers and rubbing it together she created whispy strands. Any good red carpet look needs a bit of hairspray and shine spray, Riawna used UNITE SESSION-Max Hairspray for extra strong hold to last all evening and UNITE SHINA-Mist for high-gloss shine.
First-Aid-Beauty-Dual-Repair-Power-Serum.jpgLooking for a serum to really make your skin look and feel its absolute best? Introducing the new First Aid Beauty Dual Repair Power Serum.

We’ve long been fans of this niche skincare line, not only for the simple yet chic packaging but for the fact that the products really and truly WORK. Every product in the line just makes skin glow. And the same is definitely true for the newest serum to hit First Aid Beauty’s product lineup.

This serum works to improve your overall skin tone and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. All three products in the line (the serum, plus a moisturizer and an eye cream) rely on a breakthrough combination of ingredients that strengthen the skin barrier and reduce skin sensitivity … which basically means your skin ends up looking incredible! Two pumps of the serum are enough to cover your entire face, which we recommend doing each morning before following with moisturizer and eye cream (either from this range or others of your own choosing, of course). You’ll be left with healthy, gorgeous skin.

And the best part? People really will think you look younger in a matter of days! We promise.

While I wasn’t a huge fan of her dress, I was a huge fan of Claire Danes’ Golden Globes’ makeup and hair.

Paul Butler, the stylist responsible for her hair, said he drew inspiration from Claire’s red-hot Versace gown and went for a modern-day Jessica Rabbit look. To begin with, take clean, wet hair and blow it dry hair with a large, round, boar bristle brush. When hair is mostly dry take a curling iron with a one and a half inch barrel and start wrapping hair section by section in loose spiral curls. Butler recommends setting the curls with Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hairspray.

Claire’s makeup was done by Laura Mercier global artistry director Matin Maulawizada, who “decided to go with a smoky eye and not a red lip since the dress is so red.” To achieve this deep dark look, he used Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeliner in Black to line her upper and lower lids and then to add more depth along the lash line he applied Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony using a flat eye liner brush. Then he lined the inside of her eyes Laura Mercier Kohl Pencil in Black Gold, saying he wanted to “intensify the depth and create a contrast to her blue eyes.” To complete the look he coated Claire’s lashes with Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara

His choice of a neutral, soft lip was perfectly chosen on her. He began by lining the lips using Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Hazelnut. Then he used Laura Mercier Lip Pencil in Praline to add additional contour and shading. Lastly he used Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Angelic to even out the shading and create a flawless, natural look.
Stila-Lip-Glaze-Seashell.jpgI’m normally not one for pale pink lipglosses. I just think they’re too teenybopper or too girly. But Stila Lip Glaze in Seashell is neither! It’s pretty, it’s pink, it’s girly, sure … but it’s also got a level of chicness and sophistication I haven’t found before in a pink gloss.

Now, the formula of Stila Lip Glaze is one that you’ll either love or hate immediately. Truly, I’ve never met anyone who falls in the middle of the spectrum. It is a bit tackier than some other glosses out there, which turns a lot of people off. But I happen to really like it—I think the tackiness settles onto your lips after a few minutes, and the staying power of the gloss is unparalleled. I don’t find myself needing to reapply and reapply and reapply and … well, you get the picture.

Plus, this specific shade is just so gorgeous. It has a hint of shimmer that makes your lips glimmer and glisten, but not so much that you’ll feel like you’re on your way to a Justin Bieber concert. It’s perfect on its own or layered over a darker pink gloss or lipstick. It’s just meant to make you feel prettier than before!
