Since we can now count down to spring using the fingers on only one hand, the promise of a new season is so close you can almost smell it. To jump start that process, now is the perfect time to start shopping around for your next signature scent. For the spring, the obvious fragrance choices are fresh, floral, and fruity. One unexpected scent choice that will have you spritzing away this spring is orange blossom. The Mediterranean inspired scent comes from a bitter orange flower, different from the navel oranges commonly found at the store. The scent is fresh, a subtle bit of citrus and just the right touch of sweet. Shop my favorite orange blossom perfume picks below.

greensmokey.jpgTo create a bold look that is soft and bright enough for daytime festivities — ahem, St. Patrick’s Day, I’m looking at you — Jenine Pizza, the global makeup artist for boutique beauty brand Beauty Addicts, shared these three easy steps to create a surprisingly fresh and subtle green smokey eye:

1. Layer your bottom lid generously with a deep, rich green eyeshadow.

2. Blend a lighter green, like Beauty Addict’s Creme de Mint, an aqua color with undertones of gold and pewter, into your crease.

3. Place a golden shadow on the inside corner of your eye and under your brows to extend your brows and lighten the face.

blake-lively-emma-stone-blonde.jpgSpring has (almost) sprung and that leads many women towards lighter locks, but don’t forget there are many variants of blonde to choose from. Take for example two of my favorite blondes who took to the red carpet recently, Blake Lively and Emma Stone. Each looked flawlessly done and each had a different tone of blonde. While Blake Lively’s hair was its usual warm, golden, beach blonde shade, Emma Stone’s was a cool, almost platinum shade of blonde — and yet each shade was perfectly suited to the woman wearing it. Remember that really cool blonde tones can be a bit stark on paler skin, and golden blonde tones can go brassy easily, so make sure you talk with your colorist about what they recommend for you.

London’s iconic Sanctuary Spa has gone from being an exclusive ballerina retreat in the 1970s (yes, such a thing existed!) to delivering their luxurious spa experience from across the pond and straight to your home. With the launch of their Youth Boosting Facial In-a-Box through QVC ($39), Sanctuary Spa’s facial in-a-box features anti-aging skincare products that work together to provide a full facial experience in the comfort of your own home. Featuring marine extracts like seaweed that promote the skin’s renewal, the kit includes single use packages of five products developed by celebrity facialist Nichola Joss. Her advice for the full spa experience at home: light a fragranced candle, turn on some gentle music, and allow at least half an hour to enjoy the full facial.

The Sanctuary Spa Youth Boosting Facial In-a-Box kit includes:

.5 oz Warming Microdermabrasion Polish
.5 oz Time Reversal Face Mask
.16 oz Firming Youth Serum
.16 oz Brighten Eye Complex
.33 oz Night Concentrate

If your hair is more baby fine than big and bouncy you’ll want to pay close attention to this beauty lesson. In general, fine, thin hair doesn’t require daily washing, but without a proper wash and blow-dry, your hair may be positively flat by day two. Enter hair thickening powders — I don’t know how long they’ve been on the market, but I recently discovered them and found the secret to reviving my limp locks in between washings. There are two powders in particular that I am a big fan of: One of them is Unite Expanda Dust (available for $26 at shop.unitehair.com); after I found out it’s role in Julianne Hough’s amazing Golden Globes’ hairstyle I had to check it out myself. Packed with ingredients and starches that are intended to thicken hair this powder delivers, and quickly. The other powder that’s become a must-have is Aveda’s Pure Abundance Hair Potion (available for $24 at nordstrom.com). Sprinkled directly in hair or emulsified in your hands with a little bit of water, the effect is the same, thicker, more voluminous hair.

Some things to remember when working with hair powders, a little bit truly goes a long way — the powders might seem light, but they deliver big! In general you need to just sprinkle a little bit at your roots and tousle hair with your hands to evenly disperse the powder throughout.  I generally follow up with a round barrel brush and a hair dryer to add some more depth to my roots and some curly bounce to the ends.
