Beyoncé Knowles is known for her glam red carpet looks and edgy performance style, but today Beyoncé gave us beauty in another form-- by giving back to the community with a project she and her mother, Tina, have dreamed about and worked on for years: the Beyoncé Cosmetology Center at the Phoenix Rehab Center in Brooklyn.

Phoenix House, which is a residential substance abuse treatment program, will run the Career Academy. The academy will serve to help men and women in treatment to prepare for careers in the cosmetology field after a seven-month training course, while overcoming their drug addictions. L'Oreal has donated all the products to be used at the center, and Beyoncé, along with her mother, have pledged to donate $100,000 annually.

We love Beyonce's chameleon-like beauty, but this venture is her best look yet.

While Hollywood is prepping for the Oscars, we've been thinking about all the work that goes into making our favorite celebs look so damn glamorous on this big night. How do they (or their makeup artists -- yes they have help) get that amazing red carpet glow? Lip Plumper:
The makeup world got a lot more exciting after the invention of lip plumper. What's better? A good limp plumper + a good gloss all in one.

Talk about an optical illusion. Fake lashes are the best way to illuminate your eyes and add a dash of intensity.

Eye Shadow Palette:
The best way to get a modern, glamorous eye is to layer the right colors and eye shadow palettes make it relatively easy.

Body Shimmer:
Shimmer, shimmer and more shimmer. But we're not talking just the face. You need a good illuminating powder to apply all over the body.

On of our favorite looks this season was the fierce, bad girl beauty at Tony Cohen's Fall 2010 collection. The look was comprised of a chic french twist, toughened up by messy roots and sewed in leather... adding seriously smoky-eye drama for a "You'd better notice me, but don't you DARE mess with me" look.

To get the hair: Staci Child for Cutler prepped hair with Cutler Volumizing Spray for texture, then massaged Cutler Definition Paste into the top of head to give hair a dirty, unfinished look, like "she's done it herself". She then pulled hair into a french twist and weaved leather cord into it to compliment the lines of the collection, finishing with Redken Workforce 9.

To get the makeup: Napoleon Perdis wanted a tough-chic, "opera goes to the club" look with a strong eye. He prepped skin with a peptide serum, then misted skin with his own airbrush foundation. The eye was done in a shades of charcoal and black for smoke, and blended out with a terracotta shade for a "hint of romance" into a square shape with focus on the inner bridge. Perdis then groomed brows with a touch of Suede pencil, and coated lips with Devine Goddess l/s in Lianna, a beautiful nude that Perdis told me was inspired by his daughter. Final touches included a dab of gloss in Hot Toffee, and a spritz of facial spray to give a dewy look.


So simple, so chic, major badass.

New York Fashion Week is upon us, and tonight was the annual Heart Truth's Red Dress Collection Celebrity Fashion Show.

Seventeen designers created dresses that were walked down the runway by some of the biggest names in entertainment, to promote awareness of heart disease in women. Between the amazing one of a kind designs, and the star power (Joan Collins!!!)...once we were able to pick our jaws up off of the floor, we noticed that the makeup and hair was pretty brilliant as well, courtesy of Jimmy Paul for Bumble & Bumble, and the incomparable Bobbi Brown. Here are some of our faves:

A standout was a flawless Kim Kardashian, who paired her dramatic Marchesa with a slicked back, loose wave style that cascaded down her back, bronzed glowing skin, nude lips, and smokey eyes. Gorgeous!


Heidi Klum, ikept it simple and pretty with her trademark center part, and fresh makeup.


Totally coveting Pauley Perette's heavy rimmed eyes and rocker bangs.


Felicity Huffman was stunning (seriously, so pretty in person!) in hair that was waved, then pinned and a silver smokey eye that made her blues pop.

During award season the Grammys give us a break from the actors (well most of them, at least) and let us focus on seeing our favorite music stars shine. At last night's celebration we saw many looks -- these are our absolute favorites of the night.

 

 

With her hair adorned with a pretty star pin, our favorite rocker chick Pink took on a softer look with gorgeous flushed pink cheeks and lips, a fabulous complement to her very pretty lashed-out eye look.

 

Nicole Kidman looks great as a blonde, but we are loving that she's gone back to her natural red hue. To compliment her fair complexion, her makeup was kept light and dewy with a pretty pink lip color finished her look-- gorgeous!

 

Carrie Underwood can do no wrong in our book when it comes to hair and makeup. She recently had her tresses cut, and we love it. With a side-swept part and amazing highlights (who does her color? we'd love to know), the country superstar opted to go with her signature smoky eye look and glossy nude lip.

 

While we're not huge fan's of the hairstyle Rihanna chooses to rock, we admit it's growing on us. The edgy musical darling softened her look up a bit for the night with icy white shadow and lots of long lashes.

 

 

Jennifer Lopez has enough experience under her belt to know what works for her. Soft, voluminous waves and a fierce smoky eye are nothing new for her, but we still think she looks amazing.

 

 

Having amazing skin is the first step to always having makeup look its best. Case in point, Ciara. The songstress could have gone completely bare-faced and looked amazing. Instead her makeup artist complimented her flawless skin with perfectly groomed brows and frosty pink lip.

 

 

Even with an updo, Taylor Swift kept her look youthful and elegant. We love her winged-out liner and bright pink lips that were a fabulous contrast to her blue sequined gown.

 

 

Lea Michele has made our list of faves for the SAG awards and the Golden Globes, and for good reason-- she always looks fantastic. At the Grammys the Glee star upped the ante by going with a more bold eye look and shiny, sleek locks.

 

 

We had to put Adam Lambert on our list. Why not? The guy always rocks the best eye makeup look.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards are special in that it's industry pros showing love for their peers. It's a fun night we love to see that celebrates the talent and amazing work put on TV and film. We watch to see how our favorite actress will be wearing their hair and makeup, of course-- take a look at our favorites of the night, and see if you agree.

 

Penelope Cruz didn't really wow us at last week's Golden Globes, but we were loving the soft, flowing hair and signature eye makeup at the SAG awards.

 

Lea Michele made our list of picks once again with her strong brows and nude lip look. This time around, the Glee star wore her hair in a more casual way, opting for shiny, soft curls.

 

Sandra Bullock wore her hair quite simple, but her skin looked amazing and her makeup was flawless. Shimmery pink shadow, beautifully smudged liner and glossy lip kept the award-winner looking radiant.

 

In more of a natural makeup look, Kate Hudson was stunning and couldn't have looked better. We loved the soft texture of her updo that was the perfect compliment to her amazing backless gown.

 

Mo'Nique wore her hair down with a soft flip and also chose a more natural makeup look, sticking to bronze tones that added the right amount of depth and definition to her face. The Precious star kept emphasis on her beautiful eyes with some false lashes and perfectly groomed brows.

 

In the sea of defined eyes and nude lips, Diane Kruger stood out with her bronzed eyes and red lips; her braided updo was a great compliment for her asymmetrical gown.

 

Kohl-rimmed eyes and lots of lashes gave Rutina Wesley a much more glamorous, dolled-up look than True Blood fans are used to seeing. With her hair in a simple bun, her sparkling necklace lit up her face, complimenting bronze-toned cheeks and glossy lips.

 

Kyra Sedgwick kept her makeup look shimmer-free and it worked beautifully. We loved the soft pink cheeks and lips that didn't compete with her more dramatic eye makeup.

Many looks caught our eyes at this year's Golden Globe awards. From hair in everything from loose waves to simple updos and makeup that enhanced each stars natural beauty, these looks were not only our favorites, but will also be the inspiration for the spring season ahead.

 

 

 

Kate Hudson's classic updo was simply OK, but her makeup was fabulous. Black-rimmed eyes, bronze cheeks and pretty peach lips were a flawless compliment to her amazing white gown.

 

 

Christina Aguilera was a stunner with her sleek bob and glowing skin. Her smoky grey eye makeup enhanced her blue eyes gorgeously and the look was completed with a glossy pink lip.

 

Julia Roberts knows how to rock the loose waves. And we, of course, love them on her. The newly appointed Lancome spokeswoman flashed her beloved smile and reminded us why we love seeing her on the red carpet.

 

Zoe Saldana kept her makeup in the same color family as her gown without actually matching it. We love the sheer wash of mauve on her cheeks and kohl-rimmed eyes.

 

Lea Michele absolutely wowed us with her glamorous, yet understated, look that was all about lashes, lashes, and more lashes.

 

 

With glossy pink lips and her hair in volumized waves, Helen Mirren was the picture of timeless and glamorous beauty.

 

Drew Barrymore couldn't have looked better Sunday night. Her simple updo was the best complement for her gorgeous, glowing skin, enhanced with a subtle smoky eye and red lipstick.

 

Newcomer Anna Kendrick grabbed our attention with her soft, romantic look. We loved the loose tendrils falling from her loose updo and her full lashes really stood out against the light eyeshadow, making her eyes pop. Shimmery pink gloss added a pretty finishing touch.

 

 

If 2009 taught us anything, it's that glamour is back in a big way. While stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga took major risks (some we loved, some not so much), our favorite stars were always pulling out glamorous, elegant looks that will remain in our memories. These are the 5 looks we loved in 2009.

 

Kate Winslet

2009 was Kate's award-winning year not only for her incredible acting ability, but on every red carpet she graced. Her sophisticated and timeless look at the 2009 Screen Actor's Guild Awards is one for the history books.

 

Taraji P. Henson

We loved this sleek bob hairstyle on Ms. Henson at the Academy Awards. Her gorgeous smoky eye and powder-pink lip was fresh and clean, perfect to show off the star's natural beauty.

 

 

Rachel McAdams

The Sherlock Holmes star's French braid was definitely grown-up with a bit of texture and volume-- can you say ooh-la-la?

Sienna Miller

For her appearance at the premiere of G.I. Joe , we were dazzled by Sienna's soft waves that were very reminiscent of Veronica Lake.

 

Lauren Conrad

The reality star/designer/author made many appearances rocking a bold lip. This retro-inpsired makeup look proved the red lip will always be chic.

Salma Hayek recently debuted a shorter, sleeker style at the Ein Herz fuer Kinder (A Heart for Children) Gala in Berlin, Germany, and we have nothing but good things to say about it. This look flatters her just as much as her longer, more glamorous style did and looks great on many regular people as well; a deep side part helps downplay the width of a round face, and sleek, tapered ends help soften a strong jawline.

Rachel McAdams appeared at the London premiere of her new film, Sherlock Holmes, looking nothing short of glamorous with a texturized braid to compliment her Grecian-inspired gown. We found out how to create this look from the hairstylist behind this look, Sebastian Stylist Design Team Member Thomas Dunkin.

Dunkin shares his styling tips for recreating a look like Rachel's at home:

1. Start by applying a volumizing product to wet hair.

2. Blow dry in sections, and pin each section in medium and large sized velcro rollers throughout whole head and allow to set for 5-10 minutes.

3. Allow to cool then take down rollers, and spray hair with a dry shampoo for added texture.

4. Emulsify a small dab of Sebastian Professional Microweb Fiber ($16, amazon.com) between palms and run through top of hair. Backcomb front section and manipulate for height and volume. Secure with pins.

5. French braid bottom half of hair starting behind left ear and pin random remaining pieces into braid for haphazard, playful positioning.

6. Finish the look with a medium-hold hairspray for tousled movement and controlled hold.
