It’s that time of year where women opt for something bold and fun to usher in a new season. Last week we had Hayden Panettiere with her blunt bangs and this week we have Kelly Rippa with an amazingly cute and fun bob haircut. In fact, this cut is so spot-on perfect that I’m suffering from a slight case of hair envy — I just got my hair done this week and I couldn’t bring myself to chop it off (even though part of me was screaming, “Just Do It!”). After debuting the cut in a sleeker, straighter style earlier this week, Kelly added a little bounce and some waves to it on Wednesday. Both iterations look fabulous on her and they show versatile short hair really can be.

Am I the only one sitting on the sidelines staring longingly at this cut, or are you ready to lose your locks for this cute style?

Hayden Panettiere posted a teaser pic to her Twitter of her new bright blond, blunt bangs — say that five times fast. I think the look is actually really edgy and stylish for a young starlet who has often take the safe route with her hair, keeping it generally the same length and color. Her thick, fringy bangs are a fun way to change up her look. The question is, will she keep them? Or will she pull a Beyoncé and find a way to revert back to her old style STAT.

And, speaking of *ahem* extensions, if you’ve wanted bangs and been afraid of the commitment, HairUWear makes a great clip-in bang extension as part of their Hairdo line (available for $29 at People StyleWatch has a full shot of Hayden sporting her new ‘do, if you want the full effect.

This year’s MTV Video Music Awards might have brought some of the worst fashion I’ve ever seen assemble on a red carpet — but all that bad style brought some amazing mouth moments (like Katy Perry’s gold fronts and Joan Smalls’ wine colored lips). Brooklyn may never be the same!

The Bold and the Beautiful
A small handful of celebs opted for deep, dark and bold lips that turned heads and turned up the heat on their outfits — pictured left to right: Joan Smalls, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift.

The Brazen and Unabashed
Beauty is art, and these two took it to a whole new level. I wasn’t sure what to make of Katy Perry’s (pictured right) gold grills and, while I found Miley Cyrus’ (pictured left) bold red lips to be pretty and fun, it was the rest of her ensemble and behavior that ruined the effect for me.

What did you think of the beauty trends spotted on the Brooklyn red carpet at this year’s VMAs?
Following Heidi Klum on Instagram can certainly get you an eyeful somedays, but I enjoy the sneak peek behind the scenes of her glamorous-looking life. Like for example she doesn’t seem to get a manicure done every day as one might expect, instead she *GASP* does her own nails … using *GASP* nail stickers. Having used them before I know firsthand that they are a little tricky to apply, but they are so much fun ON your nails that it’s definitely worth it. Apparently Heidi gets hers from a secret source because I have yet to find those exact nail stickers available anywhere. What do you think of Heidi’s funky manicures? Did she nail the look or miss the mark?

avon-mega-effects-mascara.jpgBefore I could even get my hands on Avon’s new Mega Effects Mascara, Selena Gomez had already hit the red carpet wearing it for the Young Hollywood wards earlier this month. Now that I’ve had some time to test drive the Avon Mega Effects Mascara for myself, I can see why Selena’s lashes looked so lush that night. The wand is an innovative beauty breakthrough — it has a flexible, bendable, multi-position handle that allows you to apply the mascara to just the spots you want.

When I first pulled the wand out of its “house” I was worried about clumps. But I can truthfully say the formula is beautifully glossy and gives just the right volume to my limp lashes without clumping. The little bristles are arranged on the wand in such a way that you can get every lash, every angle, perfectly coated. Best of all it removes pretty easily with my regular makeup remover but stays on during the day with no problem. If you prefer a more natural looking, barely there lash this might not be the mascara for you, but for a full on dramatic, look-at-me kind of lash, this is your best pick.

You can buy Avon Mega Effects Mascara for $10 at
